I had a very pleasant experience at this office. Honestly, I went in thinking that it would be a nightmare, based on some of the other reviews. But I think those people may have had unique circumstances. Knowing that the office opens at 9AM, I planned to arrive by 8AM. I couldn't find the office, even after asking 2 people. AND, I LIVE AND WORK IN COLUMBIA! The office is just in a really obscure place, so you wouldn't readily see it. I ended up getting there at 8:30 AM, and there were 3 people already there. I waited as the line grew longer, then the guard started letting us into a foyer, before 9. He was really friendly, but was letting people into the actual waiting room, one at a time, because each person needs to sign in at a kiosk. There was a female guard, sitting at a desk, and she seemed to be "not bothered." She wasn't rude or anything, it just seemed as if she probably dealt with the same thing every single day. The office is pretty small, even though it seems larger behind the glass, in the employee's area. I prepared for a long wait, bringing reading material, but my wait wasn't long at all. I waited for about 10 minutes, without an appointment mind you, then my number was called. I only needed a correction made to my SS Card, so there was no complicated request or anything. I had read through the website before hand, so I knew that I had more than enough documentation. The clerk took care of my issue, very quickly. Sure, he didn't seem one for small talk, but I could tell that he was a nice guy. I even got him to smile and briefly chuckle. Given that this is a government office, where they see MANY people each day, I'm pretty sure that they just want to get people in and out, as quickly as they can. All in all, I had a pretty good experience at this office. I think, though, that people may get a kick out of negatively complaining. If you don't come with what they need to fulfill your request, of course they'll ask you to come back with proper documentation. They aren't magicians. Anyway, don't be fooled by these negative reviews. My trip was no more stressful than visiting the Post Office. Good luck!!

They seriously need to close this location. It appears to be staffed by 6-10 personnel - however duirng the 1hr30min wait - only two of the six available windows were staffed and for at least 30 minutes only one was staffed. I arrived at 9:20 to obtain a replacement card. Checked in. There are only 20 available seats - all filled at 9:20 plus 10+ people standing along limited wall space, until that too overflowed and people were standing in the 5x5 lobby. As a taxpayer, I'm insulted and pissed to see my tax dollars at work.....Why pay the lease/rent, utilities, and all other overhead to support 6-10 positions and an armed security guard that spent more time telling people not to go beyond the chairs while standing awaiting service and chatting with the "non-working" staff. They need to close this location and roll the positions into a larger facility and spend those dollars in a better manner. I'd suggest the savings be spent on their website's functionality. Because while they say you can get a replacement card processed online - when you actually follow their procedure - it directs you to your "local office" - now that's rich..... I pray I NEVER need to return to this office and would strongly recommend ANYONE ELSE TO STEER CLEAR.

This is the second time going to this SSA office and my experience has been the same each time. Wow, I have a hard time relating to the negative reviews. I can't say the guard was warm and fuzzy but I didn't have time to evaluate her beyond that. I made an appointment online, showed up 5 minutes early and was called in for my meeting about a minute later. it is true that the waiting room had quite a few people sitting in it, but I have to believe they were walk-ins. Regardless, the information and service I received was first class. Ms Vines was friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and very helpful. I was in, explained the problem, discussed the options, resolved the issues, and out in 20 minutes. And that included friendly introductions and cordial goodbyes. Advice? if your issue can wait a few days, make an appointment, otherwise, show up early in the day and be patient.

I went there without an appointment and was seen within 75 minutes. While waiting I observed and listened to all workers there and they were all professional. Sometimes, of course, they could not do what someone requested and politely let them know that SSA did not do that. When I was called (I was signing up for Medicare) I was greeted by Ms. Vines. I told here that I had been going through quite a time with the website and and the 800 number and that information was wrong and it had been weeks of phone calls to try to get resolution. She told me she had looked at my record before she asked me to come in (they get your SSN when you check in) and she told me she already knew what the problem was. With a smile and some nice conversation Ms. Vines rectified weeks of angst in just 20 minutes. To say I was stunned was an understatement based on the reviews I have seen. Thank you Ms. Vines!!! Also please note that while there are 2 windows in the lobby, there are many desks in the back. Guess it depends on what you are there for as to whether you are at a counter or a desk in the back. I can tell you that from where I sat, I did not hear any counter conversations.

This place has two totally open counters , because place is too small, so everyone in that room can listen to the communication. So there is lack of privacy and staff is lack to of knowledge. They made me to do 5 trips and every time ask for new documents . Why don’t just tell me that what do I need to bring with me besides what is stated on the website. Even after 5 trips my work is still pending Waiting for 6th round . Staff needs to be more knowledgeable and trained.
