Was very disappointed with U of M. Students are paying a premium price to go there yet receive century old buildings and old equipment. There are nice things about U of M and the school will tell you about them but they will not tell you the negatives. The library is filthy. There is poor ventilation, and dingy old carpet so every floor smells like dingy old carpet. On top of that they keep the temperature around 75 degrees and it’s uncomfortably hot all the time. I included photos of the front area and strongly urge you to go in there if you do a tour. Remember they will not show you the ugly parts of the campus only the nice. There are few comfortable spots to study and most common study spot are these green benches which I found awkward to study at. My immunology class was held in the Forestry science building and the seats as well as the walls were disgusting. The seats were either broken or had years of stains on them and the walls have oil stains from people’s heads. Both of these things could be easily renovated but have not been despite the tens of thousands of dollars you will pay in tuition each year. The health science building is more reminiscent of an abandoned building than a hallway of a top tier University. The halls are cluttered with old equipment that looks like it’s in transition but was literally there all year. Combined with the lighting, empty ceiling panels, and creepy elevator it is a really disappointing place to further your education.

The teachers here are amazing, but the administration is a pile of burning garbage. They are slashing beloved programs and teachers left and right with no regard to their actual impotence or contributions. If the administration could get its head out of its ass then this would be a great school. The student environment is really nice, with people being super open and accepting. The teachers here are well trained in their areas and super friendly to students to the point that I haven't had a bad teacher yet (and I'm a senior). Overall, do not consider this school until the administration fixes itself, because all of your hard work and the things you love about this school will be ripped from under you. Once fixed however, I would highly recommend the teachers and programs.

As a UM alumni, I can no longer support UM due to its hiring of Bobby Hauck. UM needs to recover from its violent and abusive past, not return to it. Mr. Haucks hiring points UM in the wrong direction and empasizes sports over academics. We need minds, not violence and criminals.
