Absolutely, hands down, the slowest social security experience I've ever experienced. I realize they are separating the work load and calling desperate number, but I watched forty people come and go while I waited to get my name changed. I came at the middle of the month, middle of the week - it made no difference. Also, their phone system is worthless. I spent an hour on hold to be told I need to go the office. It wouldn't have killed her to give me one more minute of her precious time to schedule an appointment. Instead, I got hing up on. Thanks guys.

Thank you SSA for your service to myself and my family. The staff and security guards were fantastic, the other visitors...not so much. PROS: The security guards were not tolerating immaturity or failure to adult, the wait was less than 4 hours, and the staff were knowledgeable and professional. CONS: Two visitors had to be asked three times to step out of line while smoking (Note: this is unacceptable as the SSA is a federal building, not your front porch). Another visitor was using profanity during his wait in the waiting room (see last note).

I can see why there is such a range of ratings, although the office is always busy. Experience depends on time of day, reason for visit, and agent who helps you. 1st visit was a 2.5 hr wait with a curt agent. 2nd visit waited an hour and met with a polite and helpful agent. Security guards are gentle with elderly & disabled, and get credit for keeping the peace with this large crowd in a small room. Bring your patience.

I got there at 9am, waiting in line outside in the sun then got my ticket at 9:36. After noticing that the numbers being called hadn’t changed in 40 minutes, I decided to leave. It was 12:15pm and i still had 21 people ahead of me. Almost 3 hours and I estimated another 2 hours to finally get called since it had taken over 2 hours to get halfway to my number. Ridiculous. At least the security guards were really nice and trying to crack jokes to everyone
