Big trees, small 5 acre lake, not a lot of kids activities, but enough to keep them from being bored. Lot of mom's and dad's with 10-12 and younger and Mom's and Dad's that the kids are grown and gone. Nice place to stay and KB&R. Kick Back and Relax.

Very well maintained recreation area. Nice campground on the east side of the creek with tent sites and electrical sites. There are a couple of original log cabins there. Guest cabins and the office are on the west side of the creek. Cabins are very clean but dated. There's a screened-in porch on each cabin overlooking the lake. Bring a chair, nothing comfortable there. Beds are okay. Kitchen has most everything: coffee maker, toaster, microwave, small electric stove, full size fridge and most needed kitchenware. Nice playground that you can get to from the campground by crossing a footbridge over the creek. The lake is a scum pond, smelly green and stagnant. It is scheduled for renovation. It sort of spoils the atmosphere. You'll see many herons, hawks and owls. The stars are mind blowing at night. Each of the 2 cabins have a fire ring and picnic table. A parking space is right next to the cabin. There is no fire wood to buy, but there is a giant brush pile from which you can scavenge for wood. They'll lend you a hand saw at the office. The park is is about 20-25 minutes from Broken Bow, where you can get most anything. Limited items and fuel are available at Merna, about 15 minutes south. There is an unattended gas station at Anselmo,7 miles to the west. The road between the area and Merna on Victoria Springs Road is beautiful. Calamus Reservoir is about 45 min to the northeast. It is worth the trip. I plan to camp there soon. The Nebraska National Forest is also about 45 minutes to the Northwest. The park, forest and reservoir all require a state park permit. Cell service is sketchy. Verizon service is 1X at best. Sometimes one bar of 3G. But this isn't the place to be if you want connected to the office. If you use Google Maps to navigate, you'd better download a section of the map ahead of time while you still have 4G in Burwell or Broken Bow. And if you're from the city, be polite and wave at others (simple raise of a couple of fingers off the top of the steering wheel)
