The staff at the village hall are invariably incompetent, surly, and not helpful. Be prepared to spend five times the time you expect to spend, and be prepared to go home and come back with "corrected" documentation for everything. The Building Services Department, with the exception of their new inspector, Ray, are the worst of a bad bunch. These pencil-pushers are so secure in their government sinecures that they are utterly unwilling to offer even the slightest level of customer service. The front desk staff could be replaced with a website and a self-help kiosk and give precisely the same level of service at a tenth the cost and with a much friendlier attitude.

Matteson, IL lost it's huge Mall a few years ago and really has not been the same since. The Village is really one of those dysfunctional suburbs. For example I was at the intersection of Cicero Avenue and Lincoln Highway during Lunch and they had work crews working on the traffic lights! During the lunch rush! 

What brilliant village employee authorized that???? Would that happen in Orland Park, IL??? Not bloody likely.  Of course that decision had to come from the village of Matteson, IL

Glad the (entire) extended family moved from here.

My experience with Matteson Water Billing Department has been hell. They are always so quick to disconnect water services even when the payment is pending to your account. Twice my husband and I have made online payments only to call the department for them to tell us to bring either cash money in, equaling the same exact amount we just paid or a money order equally the same amount. It's very inconvenient.
