One Engineering wonder. Although Dutch already built lot of these. But if are in US and passing through Virginia you must definitely visit this place.

Even though there was a large party in the sit down dining room there were few patrons. When the waitress finally came we placed our order and was informed the kitchen was behind. We never received the appetizer the sweet tea had no lemon and only got a refill at the end of the meal and on my food half the shelled seafood didn't open so I paid for bad food. Was not asked about desert. So much for our anniversary.

Make sure you're ready to pay for what you order even if there's a mix up in the kitchen that for some reason the waitress won't be aware of. They'll box it all up for you and expect you take things like raw oysters with you to go and blame it on it being the owner's policy. The owner of this place has a skewed view of how to run a restaurant. It does not say anywhere on the menu, "You will pay for what you order even if we fail to bring it out in a timely manner." Our appetizers came out after our main meal (which took almost 45 minutes), they didn't even bring out all of our main meals, they didn't bring out an order of fries but don't worry they packed those up, and my food was not warm. The waitress said there was a mix up in the kitchen but apparently that's our fault. Woodrow is a smug man so just be wary because he'll scoff at you when you have an issue and literally say, "Well, you ordered it." The first time we came it was great, but this time we were treated like dirt, not paying customers. Virginia is filled with friendly people except for this place. Just bring a snack in your car and go enjoy the view on the pier.

Sat at the table for forty minutes waiting for me to get my order taken. I went back to the hostess and found that three people dropped the ball. The couple in front of me paid for my dinner. I kept telling them it's not your problem. He kept saying but it's my pleasure. I appreciate the kindness. Now the food was spectacular. So is the view. Unfortunately they are closed forever on the last day of September 2017. A new tunnel building project makes having a new man made island in late 2022 too cost prohibitive after the new second tunnel opens. So no more restaurant and gift shop. A terrible tragedy to a wonderful and magical place.
