The Virginia Police Department consists of 22 sworn officers and four administrative employees who serve the City of Virginia, Minnesota. We serve and protect an estimated population of 8,500 citizens in a 19 sq mi area of Minnesota's Mesabi Range.
The Virginia Police Department was established in 1895 in tandem with the incorporation of Virginia as the Iron Range's first designated city. Since then, we have made every effort to protect and serve all of Virginia's citizens and visitors to the utmost degree, and encourage participation with the community through programs such as Neighborhood Watch and events like D.A.R.E. and National Night Out. We are currently staffed with one deputy chief, four lieutenants, two sergeants, two detectives, 12 patrol officers and four administrative employees, and are led by Nicole Young-Mattson, the Chief of Police.
We often work in association with other Quad City law enforcement agencies such as the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, the Eveleth Police Department, and the Gilbert Police Department, and also coordinate our efforts with any other law enforcement or support organization in need of assistance.
"To work together with individuals, groups, and other agencies to provide the best possible service in a professional and ethical manner."
