Story

West Side Summit is a K-5, public, open-enrollment charter school that opened on the West Side of St. Paul in Fall 2013.

WSS operates on the belief that getting a student college-ready starts on the first day of Kindergarten. To start kids on the path to college, we harness the power of educational technology and allot 25% of learning time to adaptive computer curriculum programs that provide individualized practice and instruction EXACTLY where each student needs it. Our excellent teachers complement this work by providing students with creative and inquiry-based instruction that prioritizes the 21st century skills students will need to succeed in college and beyond: critical thinking, problem solving, communication, collaboration, and creativity/innovation.

Our vision is to be a proof-point for Minnesota that high academic success for children living in poverty is possible when we hold all students to high expectations and honor their potential for greatness. We believe that all children can learn and excel regardless of race or socio-economic status. We strive to change the reality that, in Minnesota, a zip code often determines the quality of education a child receives.
