Wharton Esherick (1887-1970) was a sculptor who worked primarily in wood, readily extending his unique forms to furniture, furnishings, utensils, interiors and buildings, creating sculptural environments. Reservations are required and easy to make.
Tour the Wharton Esherick Studio: Tours are by reservation only and are all led by knowledgeable docents. The tour, which lasts about an hour and 15 minutes, takes you through five rooms inside the studio and talks about three buildings on site teaching visitors about Wharton Esherick, his work, ideas, architecture and remarkable creativity and sense of humor.
Tours during the week are reserved for groups of 5 people or more, though groups with less can call to inquire about existing tours they could be added to.
Weekend tours do not require a minimum number of people and are scheduled per request at the top of the hour starting at 10:00 am (Saturdays) and 1:00 pm (Sundays) with the last tour departing at 3:00 pm. Reservations are required for all tours.

* Take Valley Forge exit (#326)
* At the exit take the first exit (#327) right after tollbooth. This is North Gulph Road, which becomes 23 West at Valley Forge Park.
* Take 23 West through the park. At the traffic light turn left onto 252 South.
* Travel 1 mile on Route 252 to the covered bridge on your right. Go through the covered bridge. Follow that road for 2.5 miles to the stop sign. (Octagonal school on your right)
* Make a hard right turn onto Diamond Rock Road.
* At the top of the hill turn right onto Horseshoe Trail. The Esherick Studio is 1/10 mile on the right.

* Exit at Paoli/Route 252.
At foot of exit ramp turn left onto Swedesford Road.
* Travel about 1 mile and turn right onto North Valley Road
* Travel about 1 mile, bearing right at the fork. This takes you under the turnpike.
* In front of you is an octagonal school
* Turn left onto Diamond Rock Road.
* At the top of the hill turn right onto Horseshoe Trail. The Esherick Studio is 1/10 mile on the right.
