Story

Workhorse Coffee Bar has been recognized as a genuine community hub and hotspot in the midst of the non-profit and creative corridor along University Avenue in St Paul. We are located ½ block west of the Raymond Ave LRT Green Line station. We are home to the Smallest Museum in St Paul, a community art project funded by the 2014 Knight Foundation’s St Paul Art Challenge. We recently received a 2017 Entrepreneur Finalist Award by economic development partner, the Neighborhood Development Center (NDC).

I've been visiting Workhorse for about three years now.  On Saturday mornings it is the start to my weekend.  The staff are friendly, I love seeing the same people every weekend, and Tye (one of the owners) is passionate about serving a locally-sourced roast that provides consistently smooth beverages.  

Every latte has a pattern/design poured into it, espresso is served with a high degree of authenticity, and a variety of non-coffee and food items are stocked from local vendors. 

One particular item of note is the mini-museum and kids' nook.  These features provide families with a place to enjoy their morning while keeping young ones quiet and engaged in activity (toys and art supplies).  

Seating is a mix of tall-top large tables with 7 seats and low-top tables that seat two.  There is a work table against the wall by the unisex bathroom that has a few extra seats.  It may look crowded when busy but regular patrons are comfortable sharing a large table with others.

This place is an awesome gem. Besides amazing coffee and great treats, workhorse has some of the friendliest and funnest staff I've ever seen at a coffee shop. They are always friendly and smiling. 
Also, it's the home of the world's smallest museum! Right outside the door, in the wall. They always have cool stuff. Stop on by!

A cozy spot with tasty bites and really good coffee. These folks clearly love what they are doing and it comes through in both the product and the service. There is even a little kids' area. Oh, and the bathroom is pretty nice, so what more could you ask for?

Fabulous coffee and staff. We come in with huge orders for our studio and they handle it expertly. One staff member even helped us carry it all over to our place :)

My absolute favorite coffeehouse in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, and possibly in all of my travels. I semi-regularly travel 30 miles just to hit this shop for morning joe. I have been here so often that I've gotten to know the owners and they are certainly very passionate people. These guys and gals generally run Bootstrap beans and make an exquisite espresso beverage every single time.

As exemplified by their Smallest Museum in Saint Paul rotating exhibit, they are quite active in the community. You'll be surprised to learn they're also one of the least expensive coffee shops in the entire metropolitan area; tip generously.
