Story

Fuel Body Lab Shaw is nestled in Blagden Alley which holds a ton of history and is currently undergoing quite a renaissance; it’s neighbors include La Colombe Coffee, The Dabney, Wag Time, Long View Gallery, Lost & Found and Tiger Fork. The studio is urban with graffiti-like signage, but chic and warm once inside.

 have been going to Xtend Barre DC since May 2013. I first purchased a Gilt package and quickly became hooked. Because my new hobby was not inexpensive, I  shopped around before I committed to the unlimited package. I tried a few classes at biker barre on the Hill, pure barre, b. fit, and the bar method -- and out of them all I choose Xtend Barre. For me, Xtend (aka XBDC) is the perfect combination of a Pilates class and cardio. I like that we sweat.

The classes at Xtend often follow the same format, but have more variation than other barre classes I attended. This helps me feel familiar with the workout ahead, but not become bored of doing the same routine each time. The classes work each of the body areas, arms, legs, and abs. In the months since I have been coming, I have seen a true improvement in my body's shape. The true mark of a fantastic class -- RESULTS!

Honestly all of the instructors are fabulous. Kelly, the owner, has an energetic pep that inspires you to achieve more each time you complete her class. "Can you go pile just a little bit deeper? Can you last a little bit longer? HOLD it!" Christie's Wednesday classes are always sweat dripping challenges that leave you feeling wonderful for the rest the night. And Lauren's Sundays intensely focuses on form, leaving no muscle untested. Like other reviews have said, I find a complete balance in mixing my weekly schedule with these wonderful instructors.

Aside from how much I enjoy the class itself, I also love that Kelly is part of the revitalization of Blagden Alley and the Shaw Neighborhood. For those of you who don't know Blagden Alley, is DC's very own Harry Potter platform 9 1/2. It is tucked away between 9th and 10th streets and is a host to many businesses such as Rogue 24 and the soon opening coffee shop, Le Colombine. Her studio is charming and is centrally located two blocks from the Mt Vernon Metro (Green/Yellow).
