Story

The YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee has had a presence in downtown Milwaukee since beginning operations over 150 years ago. The current location of the Downtown YMCA opened in 1998 in the historic John Plankinton Building (which also houses the Shops of the Grand Avenue). The Downtown YMCA features a wide variety of group exercise classes to challenge and motivate you. Our health and fitness equipment is state of the art, and our staff and volunteers will work with you to define your goals and get you started on the path to achieving them.

The Metro Downtown Milwaukee YMCA is like a second home to me.  I have been going to this facility as well as the Rite Hite location for Les Mills Body Pump classes for over four years.  The instructors are top notch.  They conduct their classes with professionalism, enthusiasm, and all of them "walk the walk"..in other words they work out as hard as they expect you to.  

The patrons of the YMCA are absolutely friendly and courteous. The equipment is well maintained and sanitary. The running track is brand new as of October 2017 and the distance 1/6 mile doesn't make you feel as if you are running in circles.  I consider it the best public indoor track in all of the Milwaukee area. The track has windows to prevent the claustrophobic feeling that  I get when running on other tracks.  

The track itself has a cushion to it to prevent chin splints.  I have frequented Bally and WPS, and this is workout facility is by far the best of lot.  This Y is just a relaxing place to go and work out.

I've been a member for just a week (only here for my 2nd time since joining, it's tough to wake up early to work out!)

I am blown away by the service and personal interaction with the staff. Curtis at the South Desk has to be one of the most friendly and professional individuals I've ever met. Yesterday was my first workout, I give my card and check in around 6am.

I come back this morning again, and Curtis is at the desk. As soon as I open the door and walk in, he gives me a friendly, "Good morning Maxwell, welcome back!"

He did not swipe my card yet. From all the members I know he would have seen, he still remembered my name at 6am a day later.

You can't train that ability; making that personal connection with people in a short amount of time is just in his DNA.  What an incredible asset to the organization; I can't stop talking to people about this place!

Nice equipment though I don't use it really. Nice place for a shower and a shave. Hot tub!

Great location for the YMCA downtown. Friendly staff. Lots of equipment and classes. All around nice facility. Happy I joined!

This review is as honest as it can be, staff is a little rude especially when you first walk in, Changing area and bathrooms; VERY old and small or no space between lockers, no private fitting rooms, all the old people are naked and running around, no privacy, equipment needs to be updated especially by the weights. The ceiling is so low you feel like you are in a cave, I mean the whole gym in general gives you a very bad vibe, especially after you go in the locker room, very disgusting. 

To make the place successfull:

Build fitting rooms in the locker area, bathrooms do not count, clean more, rooms will give privacy. 

Meet with staff and enforce rules, smile &a be nice to members.

Upgrade some equipment by the weight area, most of them were out of order.

My last advice, Again, work on locker rooms. Do something with them
