This barbecue was fantastic. I haven't had barbecue as good since I went to Tennessee over a year ago, and it definitely shows that Al and his family are from there. My favorite part was the sauces he had were both very good, and didn't come on the meat. I like vinegar based sauces and I hate when meat comes soaked in sugary sauce, you won't find that here. You can order everything by the pound and half pound and it all comes without sauce.

We had practically all of the meats: the ribs were large and perfectly smoked, the pulled pork was delicious and wasn't too dry, the sausage was savory and hard to stop eating, and not one thing disappointed. 

The sides too we're great: the baked beans were tangy and sweet with the taste of brown sugar, the black eyed peas were tasty, the collard greens were spicy and salty as they should be. The only mild disappointment was the potato salad, it wasn't bad but it tasted like Sam's Club which is a shame because I bet Al would make a great homemade version.

The cornbread and deserts were tasty. Be warned the cornbread is kind of crumbly, yet paradoxically it isn't too dry. The sweet potato pie was great, and the cake delightfully coconuty.

Overall it's a fine restaurant, with great food and quick and friendly service. I know we'll stop in next time we're in the area, as barbecue that good is hard to find.

Had to take the picture quick cause the food went fast. Spicy collards were delicious and packed just enough heat to make your forehead sweat.  Brisket and pulled pork were to die for and the spicy barbeque sauce complimented it well, though it's not needed. Definitely returning

I had lunch at Al's on a Friday at lunch and was expecting a huge line but surprisingly it was full but manageable. You probably need to try to be familiar with the menu before getting in line as I felt kind of rushed but the regulars had it down pat. The staff was very friendly and you get your food right away after ordering. There wasn't a lot of seating but the old building is very cool and the outside seating was nice. The ribs were without question some of the best I've ever had. Great slow smoked flavor and great compromise between fall off the bone tender and a little bit of bite and pull. Overall an absolutely wonderful place that I can't wait to go back to!

I think this place had The best smoked sausage that I've had in my life. Super friendly staff. Cozy interior with counter service. It felt like I was eating in their dining room (minus the counter). My wife had the pulled chicken and she won't shut up about it. As she is a kind of a picky eater, this is a major endorsement. If you don't visit this place, you're missing out.

Chicken breast was moist even after smoking.  Bunches of yummy sides cooked without pork.  Eclectic clientele.  Down home service.  Can't ask any more from the genre.
