Story

Ulele, featuring native-inspired foods and spirits, is open for lunch and dinner in the lovingly re-imagined 1903 Tampa Heights Water Works building. Click here for menus: http://www.ulele.com/menus/

It anchors the north end of the Tampa Riverwalk, 400 yards from the Straz Center and downtown Tampa.

Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

A second location is at Tampa International Airport, in Airside C, with Southwest, Frontier and Spirit Airlines. Open daily. Ticket required.

Service and atmosphere were great. This was built in the old Tampa Water Works building, which was the old Tampa Police Vice building as well. The acoustics made conversation difficult at the table. Walking around outside was nice. We had 6 people in our party. Most of the group loved their food. My wife and I had their NY Strip steak and it was good, but not great. We've had better steaks for less. They do have a children's menu which isn't on their website at the time of this post. Image of it attached to this review.

Pros: Beautiful building and grounds, friendly and knowledgeable service, interesting menu and delicious food (exception - the jalapeno corn muffins were WAY too spicy). Cons: Service timing was lacking (example - bottle of wine arrived after the table was well past half done with our meals), too pricey - 20-30% more expensive than it was worth. Still, a very enjoyable evening!

Most enjoyable! Food exquisitely prepared by excellent chef's. Highly recommend the Native loaded Chili!! I always order my hamburger cooked well. Just a thing I have! This one not only was well but still very juicy too! Very nice experience.

We came as a family to celebrate my brother in law's birthday. There were twelve of us. The ambience was vibrant and the place was busy. The menu, Tampa bay inspired, was delightful. The food was amazing but the restaurant was uncomfortably warm. The flies seemed to like the restaurant as well because they made it hard to enjoy the food. Adding to our frustrations was the glass of lemonade full of hair that was served to my thirteen year old son. We would love to come back but the air conditioning needs to be working properly and the flies kept at bay. Dessert saved the day. We ordered 4 different dessert items and they were all fabulous. Makes up for most of the above frustrations we endured.

Great selection, unique options. It was crowded by 5:30, so reservations are recommended. The beef is sourced from Strickland farms (no relation) and one person in our party knows him personally, so that was cool. I love farm to table restaurants, and this one has the added bonus of being in a renovated water works plant. Sat at the oyster bar, nice outside dining as well, depending on your tolerance of Florida weather.
