I had to do some work while visiting LA. Sit down at this place and love it! They only had one power plug, but apart from that it was great! Great coffee, great staff and amazing atmosphere.

I was going to LA so I wanted to try some of the best known place for coffee. Through review I found this place and I loved the coffee. I stay in SF but whenever I go LA in future, I will definitely grab a coffee here.

I'm at a complete loss as to why this place is so popular. 
It doesn't matter what time of day you arrive, there's always a crowd. When the farmer's market is parked out front, forget about it. 
On a normal day Alfred serves some of the most mundane coffees and espressos you'll ever have. The food selection is middle of the road at best, but where the shine is in the seating department. They have excellent outdoor seating as well has a nice indoor community table to work at. As far as the place goes, it's dark, kinda depressing and in the basement of small building. If there's any saving grace, there's plenty of metered parking in the neighborhood, but don't park off Melrose, it's residential permit parking only.

Nice, eccentric little coffee shop with some great drinks and kombucha on tap. The interior is pretty sweet but there's more seating outside than inside. The shop is also in a building shared with some other really cool, quaint businesses.
