Both male nurses I had did not do things the way they were supposed to. Tried to give me medicine I was not to have. The other, when opening a pill to give me, tried to dig the pack open with a paper clip as I watched the little pellets in the capsule roll along the floor. The capsule is supposed to be taken whole & unbroken. Catheter bag came loose when sitting up in chair. Told the one, he passed it to the evening nurse who said they cannot come loose. Put me in bed and it leaked all over bed. First time he went for someone in charge. She was so angry. Whole stay was awful.

The wait time was about three hours in the ER on a busy Saturday night, but well worth it. They were backed up, and apologized profusely. The doctors and nurses went above and beyond to keep me comfortable and to try to find the root of the issue. Every single staff person I met was so kind & compassionate, and they really took me seriously. I would give Allegheny General Hospital ten stars if I could. Just a great experience. Thank you for your lovely staff! As an aside, they found out what was wrong with me immediately. Over the course of two months, two doctors at a different ER and a gastroenterologist couldn't figure it out. Go to AGH!

Allegheny General is in the business to provide service to their customers, with that being said. The hospital needs to relay that information to the aids and nurses that work there! Our experience was we were taking care of ourselves as nurses were having gossip sessions. Poor customer service for sure! I've had better service at McDonald's. We will never go back to Allegany!

Great care by all. Compassionate and eager to help. Could be cleaner in older areas. The place is huge. Signage is clear.A wonderful job to keep this hospital system on the cutting edge.

My father's surgery for a morphine pump was nearly botched, the staples at his incision wasn't put in right and ending up busting. The wound became infected, but when he had his appointment with the doctor he was assigned to (Dr. Schmidt btw) to get the staples removed, the man saw the BROWN BLOOD and simply said, "Oh it's just because of blood thinners." Nope. Infection- of course- got worse. We couldn't call an ambulance since we're barely scraping by so we got a ride from a friend to a different hospital. That hospital contacted AGH to get permission to run tests and see how bad my father was, even though it was pretty obvious just from looking at it how bad he was. Nope. AGH forbade them even though he was already checked in and everything. So he got a ride to AGH and for nearly FOUR HOURS he waited in the waiting room even though they were told he was coming and they said they'd be prepared. There were other patients too who had been in the waiting room for even longer than he had been... In the ER waiting room. So finally gets a room, finally they check it out and it's not brown blood anymore, it's become yellow. They then start arguing amongst themselves after running tests. First they say they'd just give him antibiotics and let him leave. Then they say they're going to drain out all of the pus and infection, give him antibiotics then let him leave. Then they say they're going to keep him overnight with an antibiotic iv. Then they finally say, "Well once those pumps get infection in them, it's impossible to fully cure the infection from it, so we're just going to remove it." They plan it in the morning, morning comes and guess what? They decide, "Naaah it's not important, never mind." And start to prepare to have him leave. Other doctors butt in and refuse this surgery to be ignored and this goes on until mid afternoon. Finally they all agree that pump's gotta get removed so my father has to wait ANOTHER day to see if HOPEFULLY he'll get it removed. Meanwhile, precious Dr. Schmidt is running the nurses (who will be given credit are doing their absolute best) ragged and arguing with my father that he's gunna remove the old pump and put in a new one all in the same surgery. Which of course, is not going to fly and my father just wants to get out of that hospital and never see it ever again. Right now, while everyone in there are running around bickering at each other, my dad's life is in their hands and it's not looking good. Long story short. Don't trust this hospital. And don't ever go to it.
