Joe Dodge Lodge, in the heart of Pinkham Notch, is surrounded by White Mountain National Forest and some of the region’s best hiking. Start your day right with a hearty breakfast that’s included with your stay. Then hit the trail or follow whatever your heart’s desire. Explore the Great Gulf Wilderness. Spot a moose in the local bog. Or head straight for the summits. In the evening, a delicious dinner and comfortable bed or bunk will help you refuel and offer the chance to do it all over again.

Staying at an AMC Lodge or Hut is like getting to sleep inside of the Disneyland gates with the Yeti on the Mammoth Mountain ride. What I mean is that sleeping and eating right on location of the trails and nature is a thrill in itself, better than leaving the national forest to go stay at a town hotel. There is a spirit of timeless camaraderie with fellow lodgers, as you all enjoy the same meal by the fireplace in the roomy dining hall. There is a genuineness to the building itself, which has stood for so many winters. The bunk rooms aren't fancy and that is an asset because it brings you back down to earth, to a frugal and simple place of appreciation of daily living. Any time of year is fun up here, even if you don't have a major expedition planned. I look forward to repeat trips to the Joe Dodge Lodge and Pinkham Notch.

Nobody does lodging better than the AMC. I would happily take a night at the Joe Dodge Lodge over the fanciest 5 stay hotel in the world anytime. There's a game room, two pianos, fireplaces, and a library with a fantastic selection of field guides, outdoor related literature and manuals, and 'Appalachia' journals going back over a century. This is easily the coziest place in the world in the winter. The breakfasts and dinners across the walkway in Pinkham are always done right. I've been staying at Joe Dodge Lodge since I was a little kid, and it always brings back a rush of happy memories every time I walk in. I can't give enough stars. Yes it's expensive, but that's because it's in the middle of nowhere, nestled in a prime location in the heart of the White Mountains. The trail up Mt. Washington begins literally right out the back door. The AMC is a nonprofit that is one of the great stewards of wild lands in this country, maintaining the trails, signs, huts, and other facilities that we all use, and doing endless good work for the community. I'd much rather pay money to support that mission while I lodge than pay a for-profit hotel chain.

It's a wonderful atmosphere, filled with happy knowledgeable employees who are always eager just to talk or direct. Home cooked food and take great care of their property

Historic Lodge. Clean facilities, friendly and helpful staff. Dinning Hall has a variety of good food. Great atmosphere.

Wonderful lodge in the heart of the Whites. Great staff. Family style dinners, so you meet a lot of other mountain lovers. Base-camp for hiking and skiing Tuckerman's Ravine.
