On Saturday June 4th, after having a consultation a few days before, I had my hair done at the Animare Aveda Salon in Hampton by a Junior Stylist. During the consultation, my stylist and I decided to do balayage for my already blonde hair. I explained that I was moving across country from Virginia to California and that I wanted a color that would be low maintenance and that would grow out naturally, as I don't like to get my hair colored more than a few times per year. After the first attempt, the color was pretty, but looked like a full highlight and not a balayage or even ombré. Since it wasn't what I had asked for, or what we had discussed, the stylist and I decided to deepen the root up a bit. After spending $210 (including tip) I realized at home that there were splotches and lines and the color was extremely muddy. I spoke with the stylist again and she offered to fix it on Tuesday June 7th. The same Junior Stylist added a few highlights and while it fixed the muddy splotchy issues, it still was in no way what I paid for. I spoke to a receptionist in Saturday June 11th, and explained to her how unhappy I was with my hair and told her that I was leaving the state on Monday June 13th, so she made me an appointment for noon on Sunday the 12th. I was called about an hour later saying that they would not be able to do another correction without charging me full price. I asked to speak with the manager who made that call, and was told she wasn't in that day, but they would call her on her cell and have her call me back. She never did. I called again on Sunday when the salon opened and was told once again, no manager would be in that day, but that once again they would try to track her (Adrienne) down and have her call to speak to me. Around 4 pm the receptionist called and said they could not get ahold of Adrienne but that she would call Monday to see what could be done to remedy this situation. Once again, I explained that I was leaving on Monday to travel cross country for a military move. The receptionist assured me that she would still have Adrienne call me to see if she could help me over the phone, and here it is Thursday and I have heard nothing. I sent an email on Saturday as well, and nothing. Now I am half way across the country, out over $200 and completely unhappy with my hair. I will not be naming the stylist publicly, because I don't blame her. She is a Junior Stylist and once there was a problem in the first place, someone with more experience should have offered to step in to help. As a person who has worked in an Aveda Salon in Pittsburgh (La Pomponnee Salon and Spa) I have come to expect something special from a company using the Aveda name and products, and Animare Salon has greatly missed the mark. I am disappointed and shocked at the lack of professionalism from this salon. I had hoped to resolve this before I left but the most I could possibly hope for at this point would be a partial refund. Since no one can even bother to return my calls, I am left with no other choice than to write a review in hopes of warning others of my personal experience. As a military spouse, I can not afford to throw away over $200 for a service that is absolutely not what I expected or asked for. So now, I have splotchy hair and I'm on my way to California and I still have never heard back from Adrienne. I will never do business with this or any other affiliated hair salons. Lovely staff, were able to see me right away after another salon cut my hair unevenly. The place has a great atmosphere and the prices are reasonable.

I had a very bad experience with this do called salon. Let me start off saying that I feel like i got ripped off. I went to this salon to get my hair colored and she told me it would cost $125 for everything. After she was done I have to admit that it did look good. After about 3 days I washed my hair and the color washed off. I went back for her to fix it but she told me I would have to sign the form saying it will fade 4 to 6 weeks. I refused to sign it and said forget it. I asked her how much it would cost to color my whole hair she saud $175! So you are charging me $300 for hair color !

I had a very strange experience at this salon. I am new to the area and set out on a quest to find a new hair stylist because I had been with my old one for YEARS. My hair is extremely thick and coarse and wavy, so bad styles can really ruin it. I called and the woman who answered was extremely sweet. She asked me all about my hair and what it was like and what I wanted to do with it, then suggested a stylist. After hearing my options, I requested a senior stylist, thinking they'd be experienced but not the most expensive. She suggest Karen who was a junior stylist, but felt confident she was right for my hair type. I booked with Karen because I really trusted her suggestions. I went in for my appointment a few days later and was greeted and told my appointment was with Shannon. I was confused and told the woman helping me that my appointment was supposed to be with Karen. She said my name was under Shannon, but she would correct it for me since Karen was in that day and free. I took a seat to wait. A few moments later, a woman rounded the corner and brought me to her chair. We started talking about what I wanted and such, then she introduced herself as Shannon. At this point, I was confused, but since I had no experience with either stylist, I figured this was ok and perhaps I was changed stylists for a reason. She proceeded to cut my hair, I was making a rather large change, going from long hair to fairly short. From the first cut I knew it was too short, but what was I going to do? I had shown her tons of photos of myself with this haircut from years prior, but I knew she couldn't take back what she had already cut. I gritted my teeth and pep talked myself the whole time thinking no matter what happened, I'll make my hair work for me. She finished and styled it, I hated it. But what could I say in the moment? I went home and just bawled. It was SO short and she told me she "styled it so it flowed back" but my hair has never naturally fallen like that in my life so I have no idea why she did that. I was shaking for the rest of the day not knowing what to do after cutting probably 7 inches of hair off. A few days later I called the salon after I had settled down and told the girl what happened. She apologized, but I was surprised I never got a call back from a manager. I will NEVER go back here for a haircut. I do have a gift certificate I was gifted so I may try a massage or manicure sometime, but I'm honestly just too scarred to ever come here for my hair again. As a woman, my hair is a comfort and a place of pride for me, and this salon really ruined it for me.

Awesome experience.... more than once. My hair type is difficult to work with. I discussed what I wanted and they delivered. They let me know what was possible with my unique hair type. Great management. Angel, Heather & staff bend over backwards to make you walk out feeling & looking beautiful. Highly recommended...if you communicate what you need, the staff will make it possible.
