"The Germaine Wells Mardi Gras Museum is a small collection of Mardi Gras costumes tucked away in Arnaud's Restaurant. The museum displays a priceless collection of more than two dozen lavish Mardi Gras costumes worn during the 1940s-1960s. The collection is enhanced by more than 70 vintage photographs, fabulous carnival masks and faux jewels and elaborate krewe invitations. "Museum" is a bit of a stretch. It is basically one room above a restaurant, with some dresses and costumes in glass displays and a bunch of photographs hanging on the wall. Yes it is a nice display, but it should not take you more than five minutes to complete your self-guided tour. 95% of the photos attached to this location are from a separate location called MARDI GRAD WORLD, which is down by the port and that is where you see all the floats are made and stored.
Would recommend if you know what the annual Mardi Gras parade looks like. If not, I'd say go to the Mardi Gras World first.
Not a museum, really, just a small gallery of badly maintained costumes. It was interesting to see, but I would have been outraged if they had charged money for it. Most of the pictures posted to this location are actually from a larger museum down the road.
Our tour guide was amazing and so very knowledgeable! He told us many interesting tidbits of Mobile history! Definitely worth it!!
Fun and informative. Trying on the costumes was the most fun.
Helen was an amazing tour guide. We learned the history of the indigenous peoples, their costumes and meaning of Mardi Gras!
I loved this little display of the family’s Mardi Gras costumes. It is like a step back in time and in history.
Very nice and informative visit. Quite a history lesson of the time period.
It has so much potential. But the visit is just a video and the storage of past events
Worth visiting this place. The workmanship and dedication for perfection is appreciated.
