4 stars with fine print...

Great students and staff but surprised by $69 fee at the end that I was never informed of. I went to this clinic because I don't have health or dental insurance and it's advertised under free health clinics. Left me feeling like they took a lot of my time and used me as a test subject only to charge me the same fee I could have been charged at a non-"free" clinic. Again, they were all very nice and the facility is great. Shame on me for me for not reading fine print and assuming based on the advertisement.

So far, I had my xrays and pre-treat work-up.  That was fine.  I was assigned a student, however,  I had to cancel my first appointment due to surgical illness.  I am now trying to get in touch with my student (he left his contact number).  I have called but he is not returning my calls.  I want to get started with my cleaning and whatever else I will be having done at this time.  Perhaps I can be assigned another student?

I don't want to come off as a "special little snowflake" but this marks my first ever review, and boy did they earn it.
  
I started going to the ASTU Dental Clinic over one year ago out of desperation. I was in almost constant pain from decay mostly associated with two lower impacted wisdom teeth along with a plethora of cavities and what I now refer to as Brimstone Breath.  I was pretty damn  miserable and due to financial hardships not able to afford any conventional treatment.  I was pensive about heading to the dental school, I'm glad I got over it.

My experience with the dental school overall has been extremely pleasant.  The environment is friendly and professional.  Every interaction with either student or staff has been painless.  All work done by the student (I had one throughout) was carefully inspected by the dentist on staff.  They spoke frankly about corrections to workmanship if any were ever needed and handled them accordingly.  My final visit was on 11/09/2105.  I'm very grateful for everything they've done.
       
The dental school took care of eight (I think) cavities, one crown and extraction of the two upper wisdom teeth.  The two lower wisdom teeth were close to the nerve and I was referred out to an oral surgeon.  I got an exceptional price for their removal sweetened up a bit by taking local as opposed to general anesthesia.  Use of the Dental school saved me somewhere in the realm of $3,500.00 - $4,000.00.  To top it all off they never once tried to sell me something I didn't need.  
  
If you're considering seeking treatment at the dental school please keep in mind it's a place of learning.  In exchange for your time and patience you'll be given a low cost on most everything and giving the students the experience they need.  I think it's a pretty good trade off and highly recommend them.
