Story

For more than 30 years, Banner Behavioral Health Hospital has provided a nationally recognized, behavioral health care program for children, teens and adults faced with psychiatric, behavioral health, or chemical dependency challenges.

We are dedicated to providing safe, confidential and compassionate treatment with customized treatment plans to meet each patient's needs – in the least restrictive therapeutic environment. We also can help patients with co-existing psychiatric and substance abuse problems.

The Banner Psychiatric Center has an observation area for 24 patients and is staffed 24/7 with physicians, nurse practitioners, RNs, behavioral health technicians and counselors.

The Banner Psychiatric Center is working with Banner's Phoenix-area Emergency departments to expand its Telepsych program that allow patients and Emergency physicians to consult with a psychiatrist via a secured telemedicine link.

Our staff provides assessments for outpatient treatment, as well as offering Intensive outpatient programs at both our Scottsdale facility and Chandler office for adults and adolescents with chemical dependence or mental health challenges.

I was here back in June of 2015 on the adolescents unit. It was an excellent experience for someone who is going through depression and experiencing self harming thoughts. The staff were comforting and able to communicate without getting patients riled up. A big thanks to Nurse Shawnalle and Jason for helping us to succeed and motivating us to overcome our obstacles. The rooms were as comfortable as they could get being in a hospital setting. Even the kids there with me were respectful and kind to other even if they were having a rough time. I was here twice in the same year (June and December) and was treated exactly the same as I was the first time I went in. Thank you Banner for moving me in the right direction.

They were amazing to my son. I highly recommend this place to anyone. Best behavioral health hospital in the valley..

I just spent a week in the suargo unit for suicidal tendancies. Overall I had a fantastic experience there from the staff to the groups. This was my third visit and by far the best one. Group therapists, Tony and Vera, were fantastic! They ran the most intense groups and I learned so much from them both. I really appreciated you two! Every nurse I was was great. I did have an issue with one but we talked it out. All the techs were great, but a few stood out; PAM (you're an awesome lady!), Bonnie, who is so upbeat, and Pamela, who was just so nice! I really enjoyed rec time with Kathy (especially bracelet making!), and her positive energy. My case manager was Laura and I can't thank her enough for going above and beyond to try and help me with my mother (thank you SO much!). A special thanks to Michelle who cleans the unit. She helped me with my uneven bed and couldn't have been nicer. My bed was awful and needed replacing. The food was good but bring money if you want sodas, or other extras. One complaint is that there's no decaf coffee on the unit, only in the cafe. My Dr was a nice man, but antidepressants alone and bipolar don't play well together. I do understand what he was trying to do, but I wish he would have taken my word that it was going to be a problem. I would, and have, recommended this place to others. I will absolutely go back the next time I'm struggling. To the staff whose names I forgot....thank you for taking care of me during this difficult time😀

The horror stories of family members being held hostage are accurate. Was admitted here EIGHT years ago, when I was 16 years old, and still have terrifying nightmares about my experience.

This is an excellent facility. People are entitled to their opinions however. I am an employee. Half the hospital rooms are double occupancy and half are singles. Most people have a very positive experience here. Almost every employee working here is doing so for the proper reasons, a desire to help those in crisis.
