BUMCT is part of the University of Arizona Health Sciences center campus which includes the university's Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Public Health. It is Southern Arizona's only Level I trauma center for both adult and pediatric patients. The area's only dedicated Children's hospital, Banner Children's at Diamond Children's Medical Center, is located within and adjacent to BUMCT.History and namingWhen founded in 1971, the hospital was part of the University of Arizona. In the 1980s, it became a separate entity but, in 2010, was reintegrated into the University of Arizona under the name UA Health Network (UAHN). The 2011 name change to the University of Arizona Medical Center (UAMC) reflected the need to combine all University of Arizona affiliated medical services: University Medical Center, University Physicians Healthcare, and the College of Medicine. In 2015, Banner Health based out of Phoenix, Arizona merged with UAHN and began a 30 year affiliation with the University of Arizona in which the facility was renamed to its present designation.

Only have the one recent experience with them but very disappointed. Got brought to ER in ambulance from an urgent care facility. I was having allergic reaction to antibiotics. Difficulty breathing body fully numb. I got checked in but waited over 4 hours in lobby. No body checked on me, no water available, got told if I lay down I'd have to leave. I ended up just walking out since the wait was making me feel worse. Staff seemed totally uncaring and distant. Good thing I wasn't dying or I might of needed to go to real emergency room.

Though we are still here we have been very surprised by the level of care and attentiveness that has been shown by the staff here. As my partner is a nurse himself we chose this hospital because it is a teaching facility and the reason we are here is something not seen everyday so he felt it would be a good teaching opportunity. The willingness by this staff to learn and be engaged is amazing. Though the building we are in is a bit outdated I see they are building on to it and doing an entire new building. I honestly think the only complaint I have is that while we were in the emergency room registration came through and checked him in and then promptly came for payment. It was just very impersonal and abrupt given the situation and what we were going through. Had we not been able to afford the several hundred dollars at that very moment I don’t know what treatment would have looked like or the stress that would have added.

This is a horrible excuse for a medical company. If you want to wait 3 months for blood work and spent hundreds of hours getting the run around from staff that doesn’t know what’s going on, go here. After at least a dozen calls I was told I’m not even entered in the system right which is probably causing issues. The employee practically yelled at me because my file is incorrectly and only partially filled out. Oh yeah, I can see where that’s all the patients fault. I should have thought to program your system for you. My bad. Just find a random person on the street to diagnose you. They are probably better at it.

I had an exceptional experience with the Staff of the neurosurgery department. They were extremely professional. I had an acoustic schwannoma removed from my skull. It was pinching my nerve to my ear. They used to call it 'water on the brain'. Non-cancerous. Everything went well, they perform 3-4 of these per month. No bad side effects. I would recommend this dept for this type of surgery. Thank you for saving my life!

By far the worst experience I have had at a hospital. If your diagnosis is not easy for them, they treat you like a drug seeker and send you out. My wife was in 10 out of 10 pain, can't eat anything, lost 15 lbs between ER visits.. and they tell us .she will not die tonight.. follow up with your pcp! We're still waiting 4 more weeks to see him.. I must say, this place is worthless.. go anywhere put here! This used to be a great hospital.. that is all gone now.. enjoy the one star you did not earn. To the management: You should always treat the patient first, not the symptoms. You did not treat either one.. simply ran the normal tests and kick them out.. I'm sure that how you make money.. I do hope you are in pain one day and are treated this way. Management changes are desperately needed at this hospital.
