We're an independent bookstore that prides itself upon a selection varied and different from your atypical bookstore. We've been in business in Chicago since 1963. We're the newest entry into the business and are excited to enter and serve Burr Ridge and the surrounding communities.

I love this place. It's an independent bookstore which is great, and the staff is super nice. They will order what you need if they don't have it in stock. It's a very comfortable place to browse or sit and read in. I've spent hours here.

After spending years not stepping foot in a "Real Bookstore" as book downloads seemed the easier way, I needed a book for a author's book signing. Where to go. . . . .where to go? Well, check out Barbara's Bookstore. Hidden in the back of the Burr Ridge Village Center is this darling shop. From the moment I pulled open the door and stepped in, I was instantly reminded of why I love real books so much. For there is nothing on line that can compare to the smells, the sounds and the people in a REAL bookstore. While not the megastores that still exist in malls today, Barbara's is reminiscent of a time gone by. Books line the shelves and the small kids section in the back even has some type of fish tank gurgling away. But it's a pleasure to browse and run my fingers along the various spines looking for just the right book. The staff was friendly and helpful, the prices were right, and there was plenty of free parking close by. I totally get and love the convenience of downloadable books. But the little girl that learned to read, sprawled on the floor of a bookstore many years ago came alive when I walked through the door. And that love of reading can only come with the heft of a real book in your hand.
