Authentic Swiss French Cuisine on Balboa Island in Newport Beach, California

Story

Basilic Restaurant, located on Balboa Island in Newport Beach California, first opened its doors by chef/owner Bernard Althaus in February 1997. The intimate and romantic 24-seat restaurant has since proved that good things do in fact come in small packages. Since then, Bernard has cooked each dish on his menu to-order with special attention to detail for each and every guest to enjoy.

Basilic Restaurant's menu changes as new ideas and inspirations come to Bernard. Because the availability of organic and fresh product varies and appetites change, we modify our specials according to the season. Specials such as the soupe du jour and the salade speciale, as well as a fish and a viande special change on a nightly basis. A special dessert is also featured on a nightly basis.

Small and unique "French/Swiss" restaurant on Balboa Island. A little dark inside, but warm and cozy. Despite its location on Balboa Island, it is not a casual restaurant - don't go in your cargo shorts and sandals. Legend has it that the owner is a famous European chef who is semi-retired and opens this little restaurant only occasionally to share and enjoy his talents. More accurately, the legend is mostly true, but Basilic has been in this location on Balboa Island for 20 years now and is regularly open for dinner, but only from Tuesday thru Saturday nights. Due to supply & demand, reservations are a must. They only serve French wines, which is a tad pretentious, but you will not be disappointed if you make the effort to dine at Basilic - the food is authentic and excellent. Like taking a trip to the Alps...
