I applied for a job here in the Complex Brain Injury Unit, got an interview and never heard nothing back from them. Not even an email saying they found another candidate. Plus, the lady interviewing me went on and on about how the nurses and staff talk to their patients differently than traditional hospitals and how they are more blunt with the patients and by telling the patients what to do. I knew I didn't want to be a part of this hospital when I left the interview, however, I think I deserve a email with their decision. What a waste of time.

My father in law was at Bethesda for several weeks. His care was exceptional! The staff was caring and kind. They helped us through a very difficult time. Instead of restraining him they had someone sit by his bed 2 4hrs a day. My father in law passed away and I am so glad we know he was cared for and respected on his final days. Thanks Bethesda!

My father in law received good care here. It is different than the ICU he was transferred from so the first few days seemed rough because it is not staffed like an ICU. The majority of the staff were friendly and caring. The physicians kept us up to date and even caught something that the U of M had missed. The therapy department is awesome and worked very hard to give him the best chance at regaining independence. The RTs were great too and weaned him off the vent and got him talking. Unfortunately the trach tube ended up being permanent. My mother in law wanted to take him home so the staff had to teach her and his children how to do all his trach cares, and suctioning. Also learned how to transfer from PT and all other cares from nursing. They went over everything and made sure we were comfortable before discharge home.. He is now at home and fairly independent, able to spend time with family and even went to a Vikings game at the new stadium!

My grandfather was transferred here to work into the transition home after a total laryngectomy. This left him with a trach and the inability to speak. A MAJOR and IMPORTANT part of the hospital staffs job is to educate their patients on how to live at home and continue to live their lives to the highest quality possible given their new situation. My grandma nor my grandpa were given ANY education prior to discharge. Although my grandma was persistent and involved, she was taught NOTHING. Everything she learned was from hovering over the R/T's shoulder and constantly asking questions. Mind you, she has ZERO health care experience, so education is especially important in this case. Trach care is a sterile procedure, and until I showed up on the day before discharge and demanded someone teach them SOMETHING, they had learned NOTHING. This is absolutely unacceptable. I asked the R/T about it and she stated it had been in the chart ordered, and if they weren't teaching then it was a mistake. This type of behavior is unacceptable, and while the rest of the care by the nurses was fine, and all of his needs were being met, it should be a team effort to ensure your patient is ready for discharge. This was not done. Their excuse for not educating was that the majority of their patients are discharged to another care facility. This statement was IRRELEVANT because every patient is different, and my grandma had stated to multiple staff that he was coming home. As a Registered Nurse, I am incredibly disappointed in this facility and their blatant neglect.
