Not many places I rate get 5 stars. 5 stars are reserved for those special places. Those places that tick every box and delight the senses. This is one of those places. We ate here for lunch on our 27th anniversary and were delighted. The place doesn't look like much on the outside, but inside packs a punch. Although seating is very limited, we were able to get a seat. You order at the counter and then they bring your food to you. The ladies at the counter were quick to make recommendations and very pleasant in conversation. I ordered the 2 Meat Plate and my wife ordered the brisket tacos. It didn't take long for our feast to arrive and we dined like kings. It's rare that you find a place where the sides are equally as good as the entrees but they are here. We tried them all and they were fabulous. The brisket & ribs were among the best I've had anywhere including some top ranked places in my home state of Texas. My wife loved the brisket tacos as well. We posted a few pics on Facebook and had several friends follow our lead to eat there the next day. And they were just as impressed. Would I go back? Absolutely! This is the best BBQ I've eaten in Louisiana and probably the best I've eaten anywhere in the last couple years. It's 3 hours from where we live but I'd gladly make the drive. It's that good!
I got a 2 meat combo with brisket and pulled pork. My sides were pit beans and cajun green beans. The pulled pork was delicious. It was moist and had good bark and seasoning on it. The brisket had great texture but was lacking bark, smoke flavor, and it really didn't have much taste. The sides were very good. The portions were generous. Definitely give them a try if you haven't yet!
This isn't my first time visiting. It is my first time visiting at the new location. The new location really suits them. It gives that country hometown feel and the parking is way better than trying to pull in their old location. Customer service was nice and welcoming. The menu was easy to read and they even put daily specials on a board outside. I got the 2 meat plate brisket and ribs side of DELICIOUS collards and Mac n cheese and the tres hombres which is pulled pork, sausage and I think brisket on a monster bun with a little sauce. Everything was good THOSE collard greens ......oh man !!! The ribs are awesome too. One little suggestion on the brisket. If u can just put a little char on the fat it woulda been perfect but I just threw it in my air fryer on broil for a few seconds at home n it was delicious. The meat comes sauced u can actually go without sauce and it's good but they give u a little cup of sauce on the side. The mac and cheese looked watered down but FAR FROM IT. The mac and cheese was velvety smooth. I was a little shocked at the price for what I got. I expected to be paying more but my total was a little over $30 and some change. The lady gave me the total and I thought to myself well dang I coulda ordered more. I hope soon I will be able to place a order online for pick up. LoL I would be there too much then !! Brad, Jessica, Tanner, and the rest of the crew at Big Thicket BBQ are the best at what they do in all of Eastern Louisiana! Their Texas style BBQ is the best in a 200 mile radius for sure! Everything there is next level, so give it all a try…you won’t be sorry. Be prepared to wait a little while…this is not fast food, it’s REAL food!
WOWZA!!!!! What an incredible place!!!! Incredible food, incredibly warm atmosphere, and incredible service. The hype is real, we had to wait just a bit, but to be honest, it was well worth the wait. Good food is not fast, we appreciate every ounce of love that goes into their Meals!! Pine Street Tattoo and Piercing LLC approved, we’ll be regulars from here on out!!
We’ve been here probably 8-10 times and had most of their normal menu items. The quality of the meat and the homemade sides has never disappointed. These folks put passion and love into Texas-style barbecue and it shows!
Amazing food! Not your basic BBQ. This BBQ will leave your taste buds begging for more! Also, the sides are out of this world delicious! My favorite is the jalapeño cream corn!
I've been wanting to eat here for many months now and I am glad I finally did. The food and service was outstanding. The portions are huge! I needed a nap afterwards but it was worth every cent. I will return for sure.
Update july 2022: Recently reopened at new location across from taco bell. Larger parking lot. Walk in & order style & seat yourself after ordering. Their Facebook has updated with the new menu options. Went on a Saturday. Arrived at 10:45am and there was already a line. They moved at a good pace through the line with 2 register. The area inside was nice, clean and felt spacious. There were numerous tables that sat small & large groups, and a spot to sit & wait for to-go orders. After ordering, you can find a table and they will bring the food to you. Very personable service. Ordered the pork belly burnt end tacos and they were so delicious! Update June 2022: The restaurant is moving to a new location beginning June 2022. It will be across from Taco Bell old Fox's Pizza. They are closed during the transition but plan to reopen in a few weeks. They will also be set up at the Watermelon Festival in DeRidder. Their Facebook page will be the best place to look for updates! December 2021: Arrived around 4pm on a Friday and they were nearly sold out! Location: small and parking/seating is limited. Located on the corner of the street near a red light. You can't miss it. Atmosphere: inside is welcoming and open. About 5 table/booth areas. Clean inside. Service: friendly, inviting, and fair. We were welcomed and the owners talked to us. It felt like we knew them. Since they were nearly out, they even gave us an extra side for free. Food: we tried the brisket taco, tot casserole, baked beans, and chopped brisket sandwich. We loved it. Their sauce was good. Portion for price is filling. I wish they had brisket nachos!. We have also tried their chicken enchiladas and the smoke flavor of the chicken was amazing! We recently tried the brisket nachos with smoked queso, bbq sauce and Chipotle sauce and it was good. Overall, a good place to go. We would absolutely return. So far, our favorite bbq in Deridder. Parking: Easier parking than before.
If yall have a love for BBQ and excellent cuisine in general, you HAVE to give Big Thicket BBQ a chance. Their specialty meats are never frozen and are cut/Chopped to order. The sides are so fresh, they have weekly specials that have you anxiously waiting for the next time your favorite special is on the menu. It is family owned and operated and you can just feel the love for their hobby turned career, the high standards they hold their staff and cuisine to, and how their customers' dining experience comes first. Literally my favorite restaurant /BBQ in all of the land. And yes, it deserved this long review
