I ordered a cradled wood substrate (a hardboard panel 30" x 40" x 1.5" deep). It arrived in a timely manner but was dented on one side and warped. When I placed it on a level surface, it rocked. I also placed a 4 ft level across it to double check if the warp was bad enough that I could not use it. It cupped in the center and was definitely higher on the ends. This was Dick Blick's own line of hardboard substrates. It should be a completely flat panel, so I returned it to them. The agent was very nice and made the return easy. However, this is not the first time I've ordered something from Dick Blick and had problems of some sort. I'm very quickly losing faith in their warehouse staff.

I love this store!! The staff was a bit awkward but management was really nice. I manage a studio myself so I could tell who was the manager right off the back. Overall, great experience and really helpful.

Great customer service. They don't have everything (use the catalogue) but do a good job. Prices are great for professional products. I travel 40 miles to use this store.

They are way too paranoid and hostile  about possible shoplifters. I was asked by two employees if I needed any "help", and not in the most friendly way. I was followed throughout the store. This is a store, but strangely they seemed disturbed by a shopper who was interested in their huge inventory of art supplies ! 
Sometimes it's fun to just slow down and really savor an art store experience...unless you start getting treated with a tad too much suspicion from the employees.  With all the stuff they carry, who wouldn't want to take time and look through it ? 
I was doing my best to not take anything personally but  it's like "so, just what are you doing here" ?  
Gee,should I have apologized for being interested in their products ? Maybe they should have told me I had 5 minutes to find my stuff and get out or else I'd be considered a suspect, no browsing around ?  After I left I realized I felt a bit down about the whole experience. 

I also received an attitude from the cashier for buying a second item after initially buying something they'd had on hold for me.  I'd paid for the on-hold item right away, which they insisted on keeping behind the counter while I walked around to browse. Then the cashier was annoyed to have to ring up another item I'd found while browsing !  She actually informed me that was why she asked me initially if I wanted to wait to pay for the on-hold item ! {So as not to go thru two transactions !}. These people do not lack for attitude I'll tell you that much.  ATTITUDE !!!!!!! I'll never go back there again. I'll bet they lose customers all the time with their nasty attitudes.
