Philosophy

We believe that the preparation and cooking of food is one of the most delightful activities a human being can do and recognize that the enjoyment of wholesome food is essential to the pursuit of happiness.


History

Blue Heron Coffeehouse began in September 1998 in Winona MN, directly across from Winona State University and began providing quality food products made from scratch using organically grown ingredients whenever possible. The menu included coffee, espresso, tea, beverages, soups, salads, sandwiches, pastries and desserts, many of them vegetarian and vegan.

Goal

Our goals are to promote good food that is both seasonal and organically grown, to inform consumers that there is a choice in Winona for such food and for vegetarian and vegan options, to advocate sustainability and bio-diversity and to cultivate a sense of community and a gathering space to support local growers, artists and musicians. The driving force behind the Blue Heron Coffeehouse has always been our passion for providing good food and service to our community. With our large repertoire of recipes, culinary adventurism and commitment to quality we are able to offer a diversity of menu items to create a niche in the Winona market.

Making good food from scratch is an extension of what we were already doing for our large family, raising our own food organically and cooking fresh, healthy meals. We have been steadfast in our efforts to acquire quality organically grown ingredients, locally if possible, as a basis for good food. We’ve produced both familiar and unique items not found elsewhere and made them in small batches to ensure quality and freshness, thus creating certain propriety to our offerings. We strive to focus on our customer’s needs and provide quality, personal service. Our goal to build our reputation for good food done well in a warm inviting space that would appeal to people from a cross section of our community with an appreciation for such things has been largely met. These things have helped to define and establish us in our own niche and give us a competitive advantage.
