About Boston Children’s Museum

Boston Children’s Museum is the second oldest, and one of the most influential children’s museums in the world. It was founded in 1913 by the Science Teachers' Bureau, a group of visionary educators dedicated to providing new resources for both teachers and students, as a center for the exchange of materials and ideas to advance the teaching of science. For over 100 years it has been engaging children in joyful discovery experiences that instill an appreciation of our world, develop foundational skills, and spark a lifelong love of learning.

The Museum’s exhibits and programs emphasize hands-on engagement and learning through experience, employing play as a tool to spark the inherent creativity, curiosity, and imagination of children. Designed for children and families, Museum exhibits focus on science, culture, environmental awareness, health & fitness, and the arts. In addition to extensive child-centered exhibits, Museum educators develop numerous programs and activities that address literacy, performing arts, science and math, visual arts, cultures, and health and wellness. The Museum is also one of the few children’s museums in the world to maintain a collection. The Museum’s collections of Americana, Natural History, Global Culture, Native American, Dolls and Dollhouses, and Japanese artifacts encompass more than 50,000 items.

As one of the largest children’s museums in the world, Boston Children’s Museum also provides museum consulting services and creates award winning traveling exhibits, staff training curriculum, and exhibit kits for Museum professionals.

We visited the Boston Children's Museum on a reciprocal membership from our local children's museum. Reciprocal memberships from ACM gets you 50% off which is great. We found local parking for a steal from parking Panda. The museum is packed full of great engaging activities for children, yet with plenty of space to move so even when it is crowded it does not feel overly so. My children range from 21m to 7.5yrs and all happily played until close. The older two greatly enjoyed the shows as well, and they are short enough that it's not too hard on the toddler. If the weather is good bring a picnic and enjoy it right outside, it's a beautiful spot! We did not even finish the museum as my children opted to return to some spots multiple times, it is certainly good for more than one day. The staff is also very helpful and accommodating to all abilities.

A really interesting place to visit for kids. $17 per person inc kids seems a bit pricey but our son loved his time here. Loads to see and do. A few queues but overall it ran smoothly. 3 floors of fun, investigative games, puzzles and activities. Our son was 3 and was perfect. Will visit when next in town.

Must go for kids below 8. Really an amazing place. You would really need the entire day to visit all the three floors. You kids will literally enjoy the visit. But be ready to spend your calories, as its going to be a tiresome day. Beautiful place, a must visit in Boston.

They keep things fun. Some exhibits don't change and others do. Check their website before going for hours, exhibits and possible discounts. Quiet during most weekdays. Recommend membership if you have multiple children that attend more than twice a year.

A really interesting place to visit. Has a number of activities for the kid, which stimulates their learning abilities. Though I've visited the one in Houston bit this place has a lot of different things to do. It's an learning experience for both children and parents.
