When I got to DC to join my dad for a weekend and see my brother, my dad kept raving about his favorite place for coffee: Bourbon Coffee. Although he usually goes to the other location and it was closed, I was so happy when I saw that this location was open. Mind you that my dad usually only drinks black coffee, he told me how Bourbon Coffee is the only time he splurges on coffee, and I knew since he hardly spends anything in coffee it must be special. - And boy was he right. If you didn't know there are only four locations of Bourbon Coffee (with a fifth coming soon according to their website). I stopped in at the Capitol Hill location before I had to catch the Metro to DCA to head back to Chicago. When I got there, it didn't seem like much was going on- but when I entered the shop I noticed how many people were inside. Every seat that was in the establishment was taken with people reading books or doing work on their laptop while enjoying some coffee of course. I ordered the "Honey Cinnamon Latte" and when the barista handed it to me for me to put a lid on it I could smell the cinnamon that was in it and when I tasted it I could get the distinct taste of both the sweetness of the honey (not overpowering) the spice of Cinnamon that was in the coffee as well. I like to believe I am a coffee critic since I've been drinking coffee for a long time now, but I would categorize this coffee as some of the best I have experienced. The coffee is comparable to Wormhole Coffee back in Chicago (which is a great compliment). The location of this coffee shop was well picked out - you're by the capitol which is great if you have a lot of time and can tour around. However, I had to head back to the airport to go home to Chicago and there was a Metro station less than a block away (Eastern Market Metro). If you ever are wandering around DC, this is especially a place to pop into for a quick coffee to go or enjoy in shop. I defiantly understood why my dad splurges on coffee at Bourbon Coffee now.

So the coffee is good. I mean, strong, not bitter, good. But the breakfast sandwich.... oh the breakfast sandwich. It was just bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel? No, it was flavorful bacon with some peppering, not too much to overpower the rest of the food, but my mouth is watering at the thought of it (3 days later). While it took a bit for them to make it, the taste is more than worth it. I'll definitely be back.

Good coffee/espresso... But Peregrine down the street is better. Good breakfast sandwiches, but pastries are dry and disappointing. Lots of room to post up with your laptop. 11/2017 update: Have noticed customer service get worse. Very rude employees. And Nutella latte is not nearly as good as it used to be. I’ll only be going to Peregrine Espresso from now on.

Great atmosphere, fair prices and a really nice staff. The Rosemary Brown Sugar latte was brilliant. It was subtle, tasty and distinct. I loved the innovation!

Local favorite. ROSE PETAL LATTE is a MUST. Friendly and willing staff. Cute and rustic decorum.
