I might be biased as a local, but Brookfield is my favorite zoo in the world. My mother took me there throughout my childhood and I love it as much now as I did then. The exhibits are spacious and natural-looking, using barrier pits over glass or fences when possible. The activities available for kids are awesome and educational. The old buildings are charming and generally well-maintained. I especially like to visit in the dead of winter when I know I can practically have the place to myself. More recently, I tried the new Penguin Encounter at the Living Coast (a building and set of exhibits which, unfortunately, has been on the decline in the last few years). Here's what I'll say about the encounter: it's delightful. I would have LOVED to have this option as a child, but as an adult it was still enchanting. The zookeepers do a great job explaining all relevant information and answering questions. They also discuss pollution and climate change and their effect on penguin populations. I definitely recommend it to anyone who plans to visit the zoo.

We really enjoy this sprawling zoo. Because we aren't too far away we've bought memberships and I'm thrilled because we seem to keep finding areas to explore. There are plenty of indoor houses in colder months and an area for preschoolers. There are areas, like the young kid area, that require additional admission so for most families I would suggest a membership.

I love this zoo! I have been going here since I can remember, volunteered throughout highschool, and visit it anytime I'm in the area. It's a beautiful zoo with so much to offer. There are plenty of species to see and events to attend. Staff are always happy to help. The habitats are well taken care of and the animals are all healthy. Highly recommend for any animal lover. I have visited many zoos across the country, but Brookfield always comes back first.

Always have a great time when we go to the zoo. I've been taking my son since he was 2. He is now 3 and has always loved it. I also take my 3 year old niece and 8 year old nephew and they enjoy it too. It does get very crowded so patience will be needed if it is. Also nice that you can bring in your own food and drinks so pack a lunch and snack. They have many picnic tables all over the zoo.

Absolutely love this place! You can pet the penguins, go to the dolphin show, enjoy the butterfly garden, and FEED the giraffes! It's just perfect. I've been here plenty of times and it's a hit or miss on the activity of the animals. Sometimes they're active and other times they're all sleeping. Great place and nicely kept.
