The spiders here are HUGE!!. It is not busy at all which makes it a place of peace and tranquility beside the water. The walking trail is quite short, but well maintained and suitable for wheelchair access.

Beautiful grounds with views of the lake as well as a bell tower playing on the quarter hour. The walking path leads through swampy areas to the lake front. Admission is free at this time. The visitor center is staffed by a very nice lady who we really enjoyed talking with.

The place is nice, but the Brownell Trust that administers the park is as ruthless as the right wing, old money, "so rich that you expect everything for free" as you can get, or even more so. There was a very nice man, with a PHD, from an accredited and world renowned out of state university, who ran this park for the aforementioned evil cohort of trustees for several years around the turn of the century. He did an amazing job, and they got far more than they ever should out of him for what they paid him. Mind you, this man is originally from here, and he actually has a doctoral degree from a highly respected out of state university, and the degree has nothing to do with petroleum! Do you know how unfathomable that is in St. Mary Parish!?! He protested vehemently when GTX tried, and eventually succeeded in erecting their abominable, "Novel metamorphic carcinogen creation institute with atomization and atmospheric blending facility", also known as the worst toxic chemical disposal via incineration site in this half of the country. They used the aftermath of a hurricane to shut down the park over a decade ago, and coincidentally hired a different caretaker at a slightly higher rate of pay with a decade less secondary and post-secondary education. They must have lost the budding college professor's phone number, because I'm sure that someone's intelligence and world view, (things that have no bearing on his work, which was indeed beyond what anyone would call stellar on the job performance,) could not possibly be the reason for their failure to contact him when the park reopened.

If you've never been this place is nice. It's in a great swampy setting. With about a mile of trail to an old bell tower that still works.
