They didn't have the truck size I needed so they discounted some miles out for me since I had to make an extra trip with what they did give me. Staff was friendly. It's a car/moving van company I really don't want bells and whistles when I walk in just a rental agreement that's understandable, a working vehicle, and nothing shady. That's what I got. I have rented from budget before and I will again.

Avoid them. At all costs. Or you may find yourself paying costs that appear out of nowhere.

We reserved a Ford Edge for a camping trip. When I showed up, no Edge; they tried to push a smaller Kia on me, but I needed the room of a larger SUV. The only thing on the lot that fit the bill was a BMW X5, which they grudgingly (it seemed) let me have at the reserved rate.  

When I brought it back, they said they'd charge us a $150 cleaning fee because it was dirty. It was; a windstorm at the campground had put a fair amount of DRY dust in the cabin, nothing you can't get out with 10 minutes and a Shop Vac, only slightly more work than you'd do in cleaning nearly any other return.  I'd already gotten the majority out myself just with a dust brush that morning, so I know you'd barely break a sweat getting the remainder out of cupholders and carpeting. In fact, there was an Explorer getting cleaned and vacuumed right outside the office. "Are they paying a cleaning fee, too?" my wife asked. No answer.

There wasn't any level of filth that merited a $150 fee, IMHO....which the manager said should have been $250 (!) but he was doing us a favor. 

My wife asked to see the language about the "cleaning fee" in the agreement or any other associated paperwork. Lo and behold, he said it isn't written down -- anywhere. Again: a sizable fee THAT ISN'T DEFINED IN ANY RENTAL PAPERWORK, even according to him, and is only assessed, it would seem, at the discretion/imagination of the manager. 

I've returned SUVs and trucks with dirt-caked floor mats, sand and blown-in dirt, slush and more to other Budget franchises, as well as to other rental companies. I've NEVER been asked to pay a "cleaning fee." "You have to return the car to us in the exact condition we give it to you," this guy told us. And he, of course, gets to decide what that "exact condition" is. 

Asking a renter to return a car in reasonable condition is a reasonable request. This, however, felt very much like scamming, in my opinion. He got jammed up and had to give a customer a vehicle he would have otherwise made an additional $30, $40 or $50 a day off of, and -- again, in my opinion -- saw a way to recoup some of that.  

It wasn't the first time I've rented from this location, but it's the last. It may also be the last time I rent from Budget, after 20+ years as a customer. It's godawful that they'd allow their brand to be sullied by an outlet like this.

Wow, never ever again.  2 hour wait for a reserved car?  No customer service at all.  Use at your own risk!  Please just use any other company.
