The lady at the front desk needs to be replaced with someone inviting. I brought in a baby bird who I had trouble feeding and I was worried, so I went in with him/her to see if I can get some help and tips. Many places are over crowded with animals ,so I thought I could help the rescue if i helped the bird and then set him/her free. My neighbor chopped his tree down to which she said in a negative and nazzaly tone "it's illegal to own wild life". If i had not reached and helped the bird, he/she would have been dead. After my experience, my family and I don't plan on going back to that place in a very very very long time.

We have been many times and my kids always love it! It's beautifully landscaped and weddings can be held here as well. They recently added a marine aspect with a hands on small structure where you can touch some salt water creatures and an in wall jellyfish tank. It's not large at all so when there are a lot of people it's hard to get in there. Good place to go and just walk around see animals and kiddos have a play area. A train ride is offered and they have holiday lights at Christmas time

This is a very nice, clean zoo. All the animals are native to California. My favorite things were the bears, Mountain Lions, Pelicans and Owls. A staff member had was bringing a larger owl around to see people and it was really wonderful. She was very friendly and knowledgable. There new costal room has jellyfish that are pretty cool too. They also have a whale vertebra in there, which I'm always a fan of observing (I know I'm weird). It's not huge, so you won't spend a whole tone of time here, but it is big enough for sure. They also have a playground that our son enjoyed. When in Bakersfield, where there isn't a whole ton to do, this is a must. If you want to go see the Woolworth's and antique malls, but want something fun for your children too... bring them here after. They have a squish penny machine too! Additionally, if you have an LA Zoo Membership, you get in half price. So it makes for a decent day trip mixed in with the antique malls.

Pretty cool especially for being in the middle of nowhere. A good 45 min leg stretching on my way to LA - my kid certainly loved it. Good place for picnic too.

Great place. Not only a Zoo, but a wildlife refuge. The CALM Christmas lights are amazing. Very inexpensive to get in.
