Capital District Referral Hospital provides compassionate veterinary emergency services 24/7/365 to cats and dogs. Capital District is AHAA accredited.

Story

Capital District Animal Emergency Clinic (CDAEC) was developed by local veterinarians in 1984 as a means to provide emergency/urgent care services and continuous care of hospitalized critical patients beyond those services available during normal veterinary hospital hours of operation. CDAEC is an extension of the care provided by your family veterinarian and your family veterinarian will be integrally involved with the continuum of care once your pet is discharged from our care.

In 2015, Capital District joined the IVG network of hospitals. Together our goal is to bring advanced compassionate 24 hour emergency veterinary and specialty care, 365 days per year, to pet owners in Latham and the surrounding towns.

We renamed the hospital Capital District Veterinary Referral Hospital and plan to add surgery and internal medicine specialty services in the near future.

This vet hospital was the only one that was willing to help me recognize if my dog had a genuine emergency or not. They were EXTREMELY HELPFUL in sorting that out. When we went the next day there was a wait, but the waiting area was extremely spacious and the staff stunningly accessible through the process. Dr. Shelley Smith is awesome. Knowledgeable and very communicative. Even though she was slammed she took time to answer all my questions, listen and respond to all my "yeah buts" and "what ifs", and even though I was fried (my dog had not been doing well for weeks) and my brain was as maximum load - I left there feeling much clearer about what's going on with my dog and how to help her toward healing. My dog was feeling much better too, just from the support of a B-12 shot. Tail wagging, face happier, interested in eating (which was the issue) once we got home, and a bag full of meds to keep that going.

When I walked through the door, I couldn't get the words out with what was wrong with my dog because I couldn't say them without crying. The secretary went with me to the back room immediately and had my dog in the doctor's care within minutes. In five minutes I spoke to the vet who had narrowed down the problem and had begun treatment. I appreciated their empathy in caring for my dog and also seeing how much I love her. I was so gratefull that they were open on a Sunday because my dog could have died. I felt the price was fair and was so glad that it didn't break the bank. We feel blessed to have our Minnie back home and in good health!

Could not be more pleased with the staff at this Veterinary Clinic. They were so compassionate and understanding upon our visit with our dog. Would recommend them to anyone. If I could hug every staff there for comforting my family during the passing of my dog I would.

Absolutely amazing place!!! The staff were incredible - and that on a Saturday afternoon (of course) - super friendly, mega helpful and so patient answering all of our nervous questions (our chichi got bit in the face). Prices are the same everywhere, so if you have to take your beloved pet to a trustworthy place - THIS is the place to go!! I wished they were a normal pet hospital where we could bring all of our puppies to. LOVED them!! THANK YOU ALL!! .. PS: Eli is doing great!!! ;-)

Had to take our cats there twice (both times in terrible weather of course) and all of the staff were amazing. We had to put our one cat down and she was wheezing so bad when we walked in they took her to the back to examine her before we even checked in. They had her set up with oxygen within literally 2 mins of us walking in the door. We knew we were going to have to put her down, but their willingness to help her before we were even checked in was very welcoming. Will definitely go again if any of our pets need to.
