I have always taken my dogs to Carkeek. I have had three dogs. Cosmos, Loka and Akari who have only been to Carkeek. Update 1/2018: we have been very happy with Dr Wieser and Dr Green. My very picky (hates the vet, or any drop off) dog loves these two doctors. To me it is all about the doctors and staff-and if my dogs like them-that’s what matters not “Banfield” or “Independently owned”. In November we adopted a new dog and had his records transferred to Carkeek. Today I called them because "wrigby" got a cut and needs stitches. They said, "because we have never seen him in the office we can't see him-you have to take him to the emergency room" This makes me so sad. We always pay our bills on time for three of our dogs and they just sent our family away. It's as if 18 years of a relationship doesn't matter to them at all. Can you imagine adopting a child and your doctor says they won't see your new baby? We are heartbroken!

When we moved to north Seattle, I initially picked Carkeek Park Veterinary Hospital for our dog, Jack, because it was close to our new house and had reasonable reviews. Unfortunately, I think we're going to need to find another vet. The first time we went in, the general vibe of the office was tense and unwelcoming. The vet we saw seemed nice and knowledgeable, but she was having trouble communicating with the vet tech in the room. They seemed uncoordinated and confused about who did what. Jack ended up having some of the exam performed twice because the vet tech did it and then the vet did it again, not realizing the tech had already completed that. Same with questions about his food/medication. They also let us know that they had just become part of Banfield Pet Hospitals and tried to hard sell us on their pet insurance, which was very off-putting and awkward. Since we moved up from California, Jack needed a new shot up to combat a specific parasite/disease in the PNW. Apparently that shot comes in two parts - they could do one part today and then we'd have to come back in two weeks for the second shot. Leaving that first time, we were charged for the office visit, the shot, and a fecal test. They were still confounded by the computer system and it took a while to check us out. They also scheduled us for our next appointment in two weeks. When I showed up two weeks later, it took them 10 minutes to check me in. They were still audibly struggling with the computer system and they were very gruff and unwelcoming. After I sat down and waited for 5 minutes, they told me that they would try to squeeze me in but I was 20 minutes late so they could only do so much. As an extremely type A person who recorded the appointment in her iPhone calendar as soon as it was made, I can guarantee I was definitely not late. However, they insisted so I apologized and said I would wait. The vet tech finally brought us back and the vet gave Jack the shot. She then began performing a standard office exam. I was confused but said nothing because I wasn't sure about their standard practices. On the way out, it took them 5+ minutes to solve yet another computer problem before they could check me out. Again, the service was surly at best and I felt like an inconvenience. They charged me for not only the second part of the shot, but also for another office exam! I was floored that they charged me again for an office visit even though I was there 2 weeks prior. It was not an inconsequential amount of money ($65, I think?) so we emailed to ask why we needed to pay this when we just paid for it two weeks ago. They called us, did not apologize, and when I explained that my old vet didn't do this, they suggested my previous vet was doing something illegal (!?). Overall, I am not impressed with the people at Carkeek Park Vet. Every time I've interacted with them, I've felt like an inconvenience at best. I think they are definitely having issues with becoming part of Banfield Pet Hospitals, but I don't want to stick around while they figure out how to make their practice work again - I'd rather find another vet where I actually feel welcome.

Staff was too busy trying to sell me stuff my dog didn't need instead of asking more questions about the reason she was there in the first place. Avoid them as they could cause more harm then good; Drive up the hill a few blocks to the VCA instead, or if it's an emergency, continue down Holman until it merges with Lake City where Blue Pearl is located.
