This was my first and will be my only Amtrak experience. What should have been a 5 hour trip to DC took over 8 hours,  we stopped constantly to allow other trains to pass. Families with small children should be seated in a separate car,  8 hours of sitting in basically a coach plane seat listening to crying children is absolute torture.  The ride back was even worse, overcrowded,  dirty trains with windows so filthy you can’t see the outside.  I tried the train experience because it’s so expensive to park or valet in DC.  More than happy to pay the extra money and avoid this type of travel in the future.
