I'm only giving this place one star because the nurses in my unit were friendly and helped me get out faster, other than that, this place is practically prison. I was forced here against my will, apparently to them I was suicidal even though I wasn't and spent two and a half days and two nights in a very traumatizing setting. They take all of your belongings with you except the clothes on your back until you are forced to do a strip search in front of doctors. There is hardly any therapy, you meet with a psychiatrist for a few minutes and they prescribe you medication, no one else really talks to you and the group therapy you're forced to attend is also a joke. Your room is like a jail cell that you share with one other person, hard wood beds, a fogged up window so you can't see out of it, you must go to bed at 10:00 pm every night and you're awoken every 20 or so minutes by nurses coming into your room, then you're awoken again in the middle of the night to have your vitals taken. You have a strict schedule and can't do anything outside of it, there's only two phones in the common room and they're taken up practically 24/7 so good luck trying to find time to call your loved ones. Your activities are limited to coloring, doing puzzles, writing in a notebook and watching whatever they have on TV until your meals and group therapy sessions, then you go to bed and repeat the next morning. I was given one hospital gown and a pair of socks to change into and that was all I had for nearly 3 days; I was nauseous and vomiting all over myself for the first day and asked for something to help with the nausea and received nothing. I had to practically beg the doctors to let me out because I had to attend work and couldn't miss more days and they just kept telling me "The psychiatrist decides on when you leave". I finally got to leave on a Wednesday afternoon after being admitted that Monday and I will tell you that being at this hospital was one of the most traumatic experiences of my entire life AND they charge $800 per night for you to basically receive no treatment, no medication (at least I received nothing) and basically no help, they charge you over $2,000 to sit and stare at a wall. This hospital might be fine for someone who has nowhere else to go and suffer from deep, dark mental problems but this is NOT the place for someone who is just feeling a little depressed and needs counseling, they will treat you like an animal. After being here, I can't even imagine anything else as equally terrifying, it really made me lose all trust in people and not ever want to seek treatment for mental health or therapy ever again for fear that I'll be sent back here, or to a hospital even worse. Terrible, terrible place.

Very welcoming and compatent staff. Food was pretty good. The only thing I didn't care for was that starting on the second night, they brought a complete stranger to my room. Didn't sleep well that night as I had no idea who this person was! Turned out to be a decent person, thank you God.. slept much better the rest of the time. Over all a good experience! I would recommend to friends. GK

They are caring and in a safe environment. They do not make you feel uncomfortable by strip searching you (like other places do). They have trust in the people who go there. They also care about education for the youth who are in the facility. You're allowed to complete homework there and have access to the clothes and products you would use at home. They will give you medicine if you need it (unlike other places that are somehow in business). The mission, in my opinion, is to make people feel better and leave there with better coping mechanisms. Without their help, I likely wouldn't be where I am today. Going to this place 4 years ago was a changing point in my life and put me on a good track. They actually want to help and most of the people who work there are caring. Just behave and you'll be fine. It doesn't feel like a prison like other facilities do. You get showers in your room and get to sleep with the lights off (which may sound normal - but this is certainly not the case for other places). The food is actually pretty good too. And, you get to keep in contact with your family each night. It's a good environment. Also in a safe location, close to Sea World. I highly recommend.

This Central Florida Behavioral Hospital is the worst and most horrible hospital ever. My son was admitted into this hospital, we had the most horrible and terrifying experience. I dropped off a bag of three set of clothes, sneakers and a bible for my son. My son never received the bag. The only thing he got from the bag was the bible. When I called and asked about the bag they gave me the run around. Nobody knows anything. My son was walking around with hospital clothes when his clothrs was given to another patient that was admitted. My son remembered seeing one of the patients wearing his clothes after he was discharged and wasn't too drowsy. The nurses try to keep the patients drowsy with medication so they don't have a clue what's going. My son was discharged since 8/15 and still nobody fro Florida Behavioral Hospital has called me about my son's clothes. I had to take other set of clothing for my son to be able to change out of the hospital clothes. Luckily none of the clothing that I took were name brand but that's not the point. Another thing when you call to speak to the nurse regarding your love one, they never give you a straight answer. They don't have a clue what's going on. Nobody is in the same page. This place is worst that jail. My son is horrified and paranoid about this place. The medications they discharged him with has him experiecing a lot of side effects. When I called to speak to the Psychiatrist about the side effects my son his having from the medication he was not available and never returned my call. I had to take my son to the emergency room because the side effects were unbearable. The Doctor at the emergency room said they were supposed to give him another medication to take together with the two medication that was given to him. Once my son started taking the other medication the side effects started to diminish a bit. Although today he is still have having side effects but today he will meet with his own personal Psychiatrist who will be able to adjust his medication. I really give this place a zero star. I do not recommend anyone to be sent or admitted to this place. MOST HORRIBLE place ever!!!!!

How can anyone take this place seriously? Full of patients who spit in your face whenever you have a correct answer to a problem. Crazy roommates who never attend group, and dangerous staff members with bigger problems than most people on the outside.
