About

Chop Bar, a new restaurant in Oakland’s Jack London Square, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Using the finest ingredients found in the Bay Area, we make affordable and nourishing food designed to be enjoyed by everyone.

Story

We serve food all day long. With a shorter menu between 3 pm and 5:30 pm. We also take reservations for 6 or more please contact [email protected] if you would like a custom menu. For parties of 5 or less please call a 1/2 an hour prior to your arrival and we can put you on out waitlist and you should have no problem getting a table.

In addition to street parking, there is a parking garage just 2 short blocks from Chop bar, on 2nd and Alice:

This is a great place to enjoy a nice Craft cocktail or sip on a neat glass of cognac. Very chill vibe and low lights. Limited seating so arrive early or make a reservation. A small menu that is great for finger foods or sharing with friends. Be prepared to spend $$ this isn't a cheap date kinda restaurant. The only area of improvement would be the service, I sat at the bar and had to constantly get someone's attention to be served. Besides that I'd definitely recommend this place and cannot wait to go back.

Good bar, mediocre food. I went here with a huge group, and everyone ordered something. Nobody was particularly impressed, the biggest hit was the burger or the weird seafood fries. The drinks were all pretty good, even the special cocktails. The rest of the food was largely okay, but nothing to write home about. The vegetarian options were practically non-existing on the entree menu, but there were a couple of sides.

We all felt they were trying to rush us out, like they had people with reservations coming .... though we saw no one waiting. Our drinks arrived after our meal.... Big pet peeve of mine. Especially since the 4 of us would've had a second drink, if first came sooner. The waitress gave my husband attitude when he asked about them. An excuse about being backed up.... funny table next to us, with more people got theirs quickly..& they ordered after us. The only reason I'm not scoring lower because the bus boy was awesome.... we were good on water. And the time we ate there before was good. Maybe lunch staff has it together?

Oakland hipster hangout. Food was generally very good, but not quite up to a 5 star rating, I would have to reserve that for a place like Howard's in Occidental, whose breakfast fare is one cut above Chop Bar. I also have to ding the place for being incredibly noisy. If you are looking for a fun, hip scene, with solid fare, this is a good choice. If you actually want to be able to have a conversation, look elsewhere. Staff were friendly, and responsive. We forgot to place an order for one of my kids, and they turned it around super fast. We were a group of 10, and hopped over to Fairyland for the day after Sunday brunch, which was only a few minutes away.

Great local spot for lunch and drinks. Super friendly staff and solid food up and down the menu. Chicken torta is a particular favorite
