Quick, easy and inexpensive. ($4.75 one way or $9.50 round trip) I took the ferry across to Coronado island on a whim while on a break from my conference. Easy way to get access to the peninsula- and the beautiful Pacific beaches- 1.5 miles from the landing. There is fishing from one section of the pier/landing at Coronado, and a path from the ferry landing that takes you right into Orange Street.

Great way to get around.  Just check the schedule and go.  It's a walk to get to the ocean side, but no real problem.

This is an inexpensive way to cruise into the harbor and view the city skyline.  Highly recommend this as an afternoon day trip.  The island is a wealthy suburb of San Diego with a number of pleasant walking areas, and an expensive series of eateries.  The ferry is only $4.50 one way, and you can take the public bus over the Coronado Bridge (another great adventure while in San Diego) for only $2.25.
