What is CrossFit

CrossFit offers constantly varied functional movements performed at relatively high intensity. We combine gymnastics (bodyweight) movements, weightlifting, and endurance (e.g. running, rowing) activities. Endurance can also be defined as mono-structural movements which we perform at short intense intervals as well as longer sustained efforts.

In your first classes, it is important is that you feel comfortable and understand our philosophy, programing and system. We focus on relationships with our students, building community, service that exceeds your expectations, and program design that helps you reach your goals faster.

At CrossFit Preferred, we offer level testing to allow our members to strive for and accomplish fitness milestones along the way. Each level offers a test of skill, strength and aerobic capacity.

Fitness in 100 words: “Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense. Regularly learn and play new sports.”

I have always been the person that would go to LA fitness and wonder around the gym for an hour barely breaking a sweat. After years of wasting money and time and never getting in shape I found CrossFit Preferred. I have heard about CrossFit before and to be honest was always very intimidated by the idea. I thought you had to be a hardcore weightlifter or someone that wants to get "huge." After a few months at the gym I have gone from a beginner to someone that is getting fit and comfortable. The workouts are tailored for people of all backgrounds and for all types of fitness levels and the coaching is absolutely fantastic. The people welcome you and I am proud to say I am finally moving the needle the needle in my fitness. My wife who even has less "gym" experience then me has joined me and needless to say we are both very happy we found CrossFit Preferred!

Great crossfit gym! Coaches are there to support and encourage you to achieve higher goals. Great variety of hours to choose from. Friendly staff and awesome members were I've made many new friends who share my passion of fitness. At 42 years old, I've lost 65 pounds since joining Crossfit Preferred in February and am stronger now in my life than ever before. This gym is worth the investment you will make in your life.

My name is Sophia and I am 15 years old. Before I started running, I trained as a competitive swimmer for 4.5 years. That consisted of training six days a week with double workouts on some days. My days were always the same: eat, school, swim, sleep, repeat. I stopped swimming in December, but I wanted a short-term goal to work up to. I was always told by my coaches that I was a good runner so I decided to see what opportunities that could bring me. I also wanted to incorporate CrossFit workouts with the running. I met with Kris and Tiersa LeSueur at CrossFit Preferred and discussed what I was interested in and that I wanted to run a half marathon. Kris LeSueur reached out to me and offered to train me for a half marathon. I accepted and was so appreciative that he could help me. At the beginning of this process, the longest I had ever run was 4.2 miles and this was only at Pat’s Run. I knew that I had a long way to go, but I was ready for the challenge. Kris wanted me to run 3-4 times a week. I had the time and was excited, so I agreed. We decided on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. I also incorporated gym workouts throughout this process. At first I was going to run in the P.F Chang’s Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon, but Kris and I agreed that I could run my best at the Phoenix Half Marathon because it gave us some more time. On Mondays, I would run to get some miles in and to work on breathing and pace. On Wednesdays, my Dad and I would go to the CrossFit Preferred endurance workouts at the Highland high school track. I remember the first time we went to the track workout. My dad and I got there super early and were nervously waiting for people to show up. When we got out on the track to meet everyone, it was freezing cold and pitch black. I was rethinking this whole thing! Then we did the workout. It kicked my butt! I have never run fast intervals in my life. The next couple hours at school my legs felt like noodles, but I loved the feeling of accomplishment that it left me with. Now I look forward to the Wednesday morning track workouts with the group. Everyone is so supportive and friendly (not to mention super-fast). It is a fun group. Kris helps me with form and techniques at the track. I learned that the little things can make a big difference, like keeping my arms lower, relaxing my shoulders, moving my feet faster, and landing on the middle of my foot. On Fridays, I would do a short 2-3 mile run. This would keep my body moving and prepare me for the next day. On Saturdays, I had my long runs that would increase in mileage each week. My mom took some short video clips on my long runs that I would send to Kris so he could watch and review my running. For my birthday in January, my parents bought me a Garmin to track my runs. It is the coolest thing ever. Before I had the watch, I used the app, Map My Run, which worked well, but it was a little off on the distances and paces. After each run, I sent screenshots of my run which included my time, splits, heart rate, and more. Kris reviewed my runs and gave me feedback and advice. I also learned that stretching and rolling out was a big part of recovery that I was never used to. After some of my longer runs, my legs were tired but stretching and foam rolling really helped with my recovery. I’ve noticed that my legs have become much stronger because I am using the muscles in a different way. It is so cool to see transformation between different forms of exercise. Overall, my experience was one that I will never forget. I love running. It is my time to just relax and to not think or worry about anything else. Last week on March 25th, I ran my first half marathon. I finished with a time of 1:37.44 holding 7:28 minute miles. I also finished 2nd place in my division, 15-18 year old women. I couldn’t have done this without the coaching and training plans from Kris. Kris is encouraging, supportive, kind and very knowledgeable. I am grateful to take on my next challenge with Kris as my coach. Next stop, the Utah Valley Marathon in June!
