Story

In April of 2013, after 36 years of business, the Cuckoo's Nest was turned over to new owners, Heather Emanuelson and Edmilison Souza. Heather had been serving the Nest for 15 years, starting as a server while Edmilison started at the restaurant as a dishwasher in October 1994.

Today, after numerous expansions, the Cuckoo's Nest boasts unique dining areas on two floors, an outdoor patio and an intimate bar area. A dedicated and diverse staff of professionals serves as many as 3,500 meals in any given week, and menu items range from favorite Mexican dishes, Cajun and Creole, to unique specialties to please any palate.

The decor of the restaurant is rich with antique, farm-worn New England ephemera alongside colorful artifacts from south of the border, creating a surprisingly comfortable – and somewhat cuckoo – ambience.

The restaurant has also built a patronage that is similarly eclectic, serving great food and beverages at reasonable prices to people from all walks of life. As original owner, Jim Fitzpatrick, puts it, "This place draws a living library of individuals, including carpenters, teachers, clerks, doctors, lawyers and Indian chiefs." What's more, it's a place where families love to bring their kids.

It's not surprising that folks up and down the shoreline, and those just passing through, find the Cuckoo's Nest so worthwhile and lovably cuckoo!

Amazing and authentic Mexican food! My favorite dish is the Tamales. My partner enjoys the Enchiladas, and friends have loved their tacos. The portions are surprisingly filling, each time I've been here I have brought home leftovers, despite feeling confident I could finish the plate. If you visit during the winter the Tito's Hot Chocolate is a welcomed alcoholic beverage and treat!

Best Mexican food around. Offer the best variety, only place that serves tamales. Service is always top notch, very comfortable atmosphere, reasonable prices.

Food was good, service was slow. Worst part was we ordered high end Tequila. 1st shot was awesome very smooth. We ordered 1 more shot. They brought us a very low end shot, burned all the way down. Told the girl, she Assured us it was top shelf. Myself and 2 other men that know Tequila all said it was different. We have no proof it was different but we think it was. The only thing they did for us after we told the girl what we thought was, she brought over a bottle from the bar to show us a good bottle. In closing, I would go back but would only drink if I am at the bar.

Spacious, eclectic, antique barn with a very welcoming atmosphere. Friendly professional staff and consistently delicious food! Easy driving access and plenty of parking. The margarita was perfect and the sangria was the best I’ve ever had. The chips and salsa were also fantastic. I’d recommend the street tacos. And my husband loved the Cajun steak.

Never stopped in before and did onnour way to NYC. Awesome staff. The bartender was exceptionally attentive to us as well as all the locals. Made us feel at home. And the food was top notch for such a "hole in the wall" spot. Kudos to the staff and owners.
