After taking my 3 and 8 year old grandsons on the ferry from Alameda to San Francisco for the first time, we headed toward Cupids Span. It is what is most visible on the skyline with the bright red "feathers" of the arrow standing almost vertical. The kids and I skipped up the pathway to the giant bow and arrow. When we got closer I noticed that there was a low wire surrounding the installation by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. The 8 year old crawled under the wire first, and then the 3 year old followed. The older brother ran through the grass with younger one following in his big brother's foot steps. Then the big brother started running up the sculpture and sliding down it. "WHEEE" it looked like such fun!!! Both boys started slowly and picked up steam as they got more confidence. The artists created a perfect slide for people of all ages. I didn't go on it myself, but my grandsons had a blast! Tip: if you are coming from Alameda or Oakland and you take the ferry you won't have to worry about parking while visiting this amazing site. Ps. If they didn't want people to slide on the bow, don't you think they would have made it more difficult to get on?
Marking the Embarcadero with the back of a bow, Cupid’s Span is a work of art! But great is the expanse of shoreline that’s a promenade along the San Francisco Bay. The water can have a gem like quality in the morning! A haven for runners, dogs, dog walkers, moms exercising themselves with stroller laden with the babe. Kids love the space! There’s a fresh gust of air and spectacular vistas of the Bay Bridge. Make your day. Visit. Enjoy the view!
Cool spot for a pic of the art with the Bay Bridge in the background. Very short walk to the ferry building.
First visit to California in the Spring of 2006. This sculpture is located in the Bay Area in San Francisco. It was a sight to see because of this sculptures massive size. It was fun to pose in front of it makes it feels like you are making a statement and or a point. Literally. Nice warm colors that it stands out because of its height and set location. It’s structure and detail is impeccable. Constructed on nice and clean grass where you may lay down, and or sit, and enjoy some nice sun with this beautiful work of art.
Peaceful park to walk through before getting food at the ferry building. Awesome views of the Bay bridge at night
Fun photo-op while visiting the Ferry Building. Watched a cute bridal couple taking pics and dodged the marathon set-up operations while enjoying walking around the sculpture and taking in the view.
Excellent place for photos, the bridge on the background is amazing!!
So neat to see! I'm from NJ and my daughter does archery, so when I saw this sculpture, I was so excited. Took lots of pictures for my daughter and she loved them
It is a sculpture of a huge yellow bow and red arrow. It is a focal point of attraction within the Rincon park. I did read a brief history behind which states that it was the created by a couple with something relating to the romantic reputation of the city. Capturing photos of this outdoor sculpture with the city in the background looks awesome and colorful. Entry fee: free Time of travel: October 2018
Located in a good park to chill, close to the Ferry Building... something out of the ordinary with a backdrop of the bay or San Francisco downtown
