You have to give 1 star to leave a review. I am leaving this review to save other patients from being DEFRAUDED AND ROBBED BY DR. JEFFREY NELSON & HIS OFFICE STAFF! My husband needed emergency eye surgery to remove a piece of metal out of his eye. The attending physician at the e.r. set up an appt. w/ Dr. Jeffrey L. Nelson. We were assured repeatedly that they accepted Medicaid & we would be taken care of regardless of our inability to pay for the procedure in cash that day. I dropped my husband off & left & he was to call me when the procedure was over to come pick him up so he was alone in the office. Immediately, he was treated very, very rudely by the front desk lady, she demanded full payment of the surgery up front which my husband then proceeded to say WE COULD NOT AFFORD THAT TODAY, he was waiting for Medicaid's acceptance, & then they would pay for the surgery b/c Medicaid will cover things up to 90 days before getting accepted. She went in the back for a minute, came back to my husband & said "fine, but you have to pay at least FIVE DOLLARS up front. My husband said that was fine. Instead of doing the transaction right then, she told my husband "just wait, you can pay when you're done." They did the surgery, dilated BOTH eyes even though it was only the R eye that was injured, & when done, at check-out, told my husband "ok, that will be 370. Not, "that will be 3 hundred and seventy dollars (which he had already clearly stated we could not pay for the entire procedure up front & that he will have Medicaid soon) she just said, "ok, that will be 370" My husband responded to this quite clearly and loudly (my husband is extremely boisterous & this is a very small, quiet office)"oh, I only have to pay 3 DOLLARS & SEVENTY CENTS, you first told me FIVE DOLLARS so shoot, that's even less, thank you, I appreciate this." (ACTUALLY THANKED THEM FOR BARLEY CHARGING US ANYTHING THAT DAY)the office lady said nothing and proceeded to run our card for 3 HUNDRED AND SEVENTY DOLLARS!!!!! Mind you, my husband is COMPLETELY BLIND AT THIS MOMENT & I'm not there yet, he did NOT sign for this transaction either. Federal law states any transaction over a certain amount needs the signature or pin # put in of the card holder. She then folded up the receipt, and told him to promptly put it in his pocket. B/c of this, our bank acct was almost emptied & we had to barrow from family members to pay our Nipsco bill. We are not Dr.'s. We are normal, lower-middle class people w/ 4 small children. This amount of $ FRAUDULENTLY taken from us affected us greatly, my husband repeatedly told Dr. Nelson's office staff we could not afford the full amount, Medicaid would reimburse them for the surgery, & he was then told that was ok & only had to pay $5.00. He had both eyes dilated for no reason, & our card was ran for hundreds of dollars knowing full well my husband thought it was being ran for 3 dollars & some change. That is FRAUD! To tell someone who cannot see you are running their card for one amount & then run it for a different amnt. When we found this out the next day, my husband called Dr. Nelson's office, explained what happened, & asked "well, what are you going to do about this?" The billing lady answered "this is what we are going to do, we are going to keep you scheduled for the follow up appt b/c now you don't owe us any money." and started chuckling. My husband then put a review up about this incident & Dr. Nelson himself, talked to my husband, begging him to take the review down & acted like he knew nothing of what his office personnel were up to, said he would review his cameras b/c they have sound & if he heard what my husband claimed, he would not charge us. My husband took down the review & we never heard from Dr. N again. WE STRONGLY SUGGEST USING ANOTHER EYE CLINIC FOR YOUR OPHTHALMOLOGY NEEDS. DON'T LET DR. NELSON DEFRAUD ANYONE ELSE!

Dr Gross was amazing with my 11 year old son who had sustained an eye injury. The office was quick to get him in and made him very comfortable, relieving all his anxiety ( and mom's too) during the exam.
