The self guided hike is a pleasant and easy 3.5 mile loop surrounded by rolling hills, beautiful wildflowers, and native blue oaks. It is open to the public on Saturdays February-May and October-November for limited hours. A good idea to check their website for specifics before heading over. Definitely worth the short drive from Sacramento if you're looking for a beautiful, local morning hike.

This is a very cool place. Its just minutes from town but 200 years back in time. And it feels very remote. There is a dirt road through the middle with plenty to explore. There are tons of old Indian artifacts waiting to be picked up for the first time in centuries. Just leave them. But admire the work. Look along hill cuts for the old road but also use common sense. Bottom of hills near creeks. Rises with large flat areas on top. Places you would put a camp or village. Native Americans inhabited the area for 10000 years. Every good spot to live had been used. Every lived in spot will have remains like stone tools or effigies. Its a rich nurturing environment.Just leave no damage. Ever! Observe, learn and leave. Take nothing. You will be better for it. And so will future generations.
