Had two visits, got into the exam room basically at my appointment time, and the staff are fantastic. The only thing I would recommend is when they call to reconfirm appointments (a great feature by the way) that they sound a little less like they've just got a list to get through. Each time they called, I had questions, and I just felt like the person calling didn't really want to take the time to answer. It's important to remember that for me, the patient, I'm the only phone call, even though for you, the caller, it's the 20th or 30th. Otherwise, Vera is fantastic, the nurses are fantastic.

I have had several appointments and some surgeries by Dr. Schaeffer. She is excellent. I highly recommend her. She removed something from my face and one year later there is such a light, light scar. You would have to be looking for it to find it. She has excellent surgical technique, pleasant personality, and very efficient. Something some doctors don't do that she does is listen to what the patient is saying. Her office staff has always been professional and polite. You rarely wait beyond your scheduled time and then its only a couple of minutes. I have waited in other doctor's office for an hour to hour and half, not here. The office check-in window could be placed further down the wall because it is centrally placed and anyone in the waiting room can hear what you are saying. For confidentiality I would move the check-in window closer to the door where you enter the treatment area.

Never in my life have I had such a terrible experience at a doctor's office. First off, the receptionist who insisted on calling me "Mrs. Burns", was very rude. Once I handed in my new patient paperwork she proceeded to tell me one of my insurances was not accepted because it was out of network. I had waited almost 2 months for this very important appointment. What she did was acceptable. It was how she did it that was not. She first announced it to the whole lobby and continued a conversation from about 10 feet away regarding my insurance being out of network. I insisted several times that my secondary insurance did in fact have out of network benefits, but apparently she didn't know what she was talking about and was just relaying to me what her manager had said. So I left. But I decided to come back to speak to this so-called manager because I know insurance, and I definitely know my own insurance. I spoke the the same receptionist that insisted in calling me 'Mrs.' and asked to speak to her manager at which point she said you don't have benefits because it's not just out of network, it's just not accepted by our practice. I had already gone over this with her moments before, and now her story changed? I was now more confused than ever. I had to wait 10 min. to see this "manager" to straighten things out. Note: I had not yet received one apology for inconvenience or otherwise. Once the manager came out to speak to me she took me to an exam room which I thought odd since she had an office? But anyway, she also told me for just the second time right after the receptionist that my insurance was not accepted at all by the practice; therefore, it would be insurance fraud to see me. Well that would've been news I would've liked to have heard a few days, months if possible before spending time waiting for this very important appointment. I asked why the girl at the desk did not have this knowledge, and she replied that she did; however she didn't relay this knowledge to me when she said my insurance was out of network just minutes ago. I then asked her why I was never notified my insurance was not accepted by their office prior to the appointment to which she replied, "it is the responsibility of the patient to figure out if your insurance is accepted by our office." Really? Then what is the purpose of me giving my insurance info prior to an appointment? I thought that's what an office staff's job was specifically: to find out whether the patient can use said insurance at that particular office. I have never had this type of encounter at a doctor's office putting blame on the patient for not knowing their policies. I never received an apology, and again I was blamed for being unprepared by not knowing what insurances THEIR office accepts. I would not recommend going here unless the receptionists learn some etiquette and manners and stop blaming patients for not knowing what insurances THEY carry. It is their job to verify this information, not the patient's.
