Story

we are a vegan/vegetarian cafe in downtown tempe with emphasis on global cuisine using as many local ingredients as possible. we have an ever changing daily menu and we cater to all allergens such as gluten free, soy free, nut free, dairy free, etc! come visit us during the week!

OUTSTANDING IN EVERY WAY. - Fresh and delicious vegan food - Conscientious and caring team - Rotating menu so they let you sample everything first - NOW OPEN SATURDAYS! Desert Roots had been recommended to me months ago but I was only ever in the area evenings and Saturdays. I was thrilled they are now open Saturdays so tried it today. Despite being my first visit and only two months into my plant based lifestyle, I felt like I was among friends. The owner Leslie and Chef Travis were both eager to welcome me and assist with my selections. They offered me a sample plate of the days offerings and I stopped just short of licking it clean. Leslie eagerly assisted my mom and I to our car with our food and told us about her favorite local vegan restaurants. Truly an owner who has fallen in love with her customers and not herself. I can’t wait to return.

One of its kind! (at least that I know of, lol) I'm super excited to have found this restaurant that creates fresh and exciting vegan meals from local produce - fresh every day! I became a vegetarian for health reasons 4 months ago and its super hard to find healthy meals that are appetizing. And I love the peaceful little courtyard for eating and relaxing. Its nice to enjoy nature in the middle of the city. Ask for a taste of anything, they're super knowledgeable and helpful if you're trying to decide what to get.

This place has a very authentic and inviting atmosphere. The staff allow you to try anything and help you out with their freshly prepared ingredients that change daily. I would actually say that that is a downside as you are limited in your ability to fully experience their entire menu! I had a limequat coconut salad that was very good with a light, but perfect balance of toppings and a lentil wrap. I would actually recommend to get the ingredients that come in the wrap on it's own, which is what my friend did and he actually got a larger portion. Overall, it's hard to deny the fresh, naturally, home-made meals here, all at very reasonable prices

Very cute hole in the wall vegan joint. First time trying it and the food is very flavorful. The gal and guy here are super chill. In the AZ heat this place stays cool for outside eating since there is no indoor tables. The menu changed everyday but they post it on Facebook and Instagrams .

I loved Desert Roots. Went in last week during a vacation and am still thinking about the wrap I had for lunch there (and the one I brought home for dinner later that night...). Folks behind the counter were a delight too. Would recommend to anyone, dietary preferences aside!
