The House of Tricks opened in 1987 in a small 1920's cottage, just a block and a half away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Tempe’s Mill Avenue.

Story

Award-winning House of Tricks restaurant in Tempe, Arizona, serves creative contemporary American cuisine. The seasonally-inspired menus change regularly and reflect an eclectic blend of cultures and flavors, featuring the freshest produce available. Tricks is open Monday through Saturday for lunch between 11AM and 4PM; dinner is served from 4PM to 10PM. The restaurant is closed on Sundays. Tricks restaurant is housed in two charming turn-of-the-century cottages that make guests feel right at home. A wooden deck and covered outdoor bar connect the cottages and provide a perfect retreat for unwinding with friends. Gourmet outdoor dining is especially delightful on the lush, shady patio that’s rimmed with colorful flowers and vines. Just steps away from the hustle and bustle of popular Mill Avenue, this welcome oasis has been a Valley favorite for decades.

Pretty good! We got the soup of the day (potato cheddar, kind of bland and thick), salad and tofu bowl. Everything tasted so fresh, and prices are decent. Wine specials were tasty & refreshing. The atmosphere is so comfortable and inviting. We were pleasantly surprised (the name is kind of silly!).

We came here for a birthday and were treated like royalty. The wine was perfectly paired with our meal for us, because we weren't quite sure which to pick. The appetizers were phenomenal, as was the rest of the meal. Everything was fresh and hot. The atmosphere was dimly lit and very romantic. The staff was super professional and helpful. What a lovely little gem in Tempe.

Decent food, ...expensive, with surprisingly bad service. I sat at the bar and the bartender was more interested in talking about football with his buddy than serving me. Had I not been so hungry, ...would have definitely left. I dropped $100 bucks just for myself, remained polite the entire time and said thanks on my way out, ...only to be ignored. I dine out regularly with clients and will never go here again. I strongly recommend to take your business elsewhere.

I have dined at this established twice, and every time has been wonderful. The servers are very sweet and attentive, and the atmosphere is just stunning. The food....the food is  just incredible. The menu is not large, but they do have quite a verity. The portions are on the smaller side, but they can absolutely fill you up. It is pricey, so be aware you won't eat for cheap, but honestly it is so worth it! Not to mention, the restaurant is right around the corner from the bars in downtown Tempe.

Love the food and atmosphere, but don't go unless you have time wait for slow service - Food always tastes amazing and the patio atmosphere is great, I booked a special work recognition and called ahead to ensure some could order and leave in 1 hour, instead I had to hunt down our server John to take our orders after 30 minutes, then food did not arrive until 1 hour 10 minutes after we were seated.  Mine had to be boxed up immediately and I could not eat it there since the service was so slow.  The slow service ruined the purpose of the recognition event for my team.  And not even an apology or any sign of speeding things up from John
