My son had his adenoids and tonsils removed. Recovery on him was hard. A day after surgery he vomited and was spitting up blood. We live two hours away, I rushed my son to the hospital in our small town and the doctor was so incompetent. He was telling me bleeding is normal after that sort of surgery. I called dorenbechers to tell them what was going on, the lady was super honest with me, told me if I felt they weren't capable of caring for my child, to request they send him to dorenbechers. She said that amount of bleeding IS NOT normal. After 2 hours of the small town hospital acting like nothing was wrong with my child, I requested he be transferred. Dorenbechers was in contact with the hospital and recommended the transfer also. My son was pale and spitting up blood. Once we arrived at dorenbechers, they set my son up with so.e pain meds to get him comfortable, put him in a bed and he slept. He had torn open his wound from puking. Dorenbechers kept my son for 2 days and sent him home with pain meds. They also have an amazing play room and play games with the kids, handing out prizes, wheeling Xboxes into the rooms if requested. My son loved it. Definately not the sort of treatment you expect at a hospital. My son didn't eat or drink for at least a week, I had to call for more pain meds because that was all he kept asking for. He complained of terrible ear pain when he swallowed anything. It was a miserable time but the hospital made the experience as good as it could have been. Would Definately recommend this place.

Car was broken into no security, crazy people in the lobby with no filter & no recourse for there actions. Was threatened by customers & staff turned there head. Worst visit ever....! At a children's hospital you can get stolen from & ignored for hours.

Showed up at 2:49 for a 2:45 appt. Friendly receptionist admitted that the OT (Occupational Therapist) had "just walked by". Sat for nearly 30 minutes before our OT arrived explaining that we were late and she wouldn't have time to do a full evaluation before her next appt. Right. After talking with the check-in receptionist it was decided that the "new pager wasn't working correctly", meanwhile the OT sat in her office just down the hall while we sat nearly falling asleep waiting for our appt in the waiting area. This stuff rarely happens in a private clinic. The OT department (on this day, with this set of people) made it feel like a truly institutional experience. We "chose" Doernbecher because it was the only OT program that we could find that would accept our insurance. The facilities were adequate, I guess... my child sat on the floor in a small room while the "evaluation" took place. We then transitioned to a larger "gym" for some activities, but even that was small by most OT standards, and loud with other kids in therapy. Honestly, I came out of there with one thought in my head -- "this is where having money gives you better choices". If you are willing to pay out-of-pocket (or lucky enough to have better insurance) there are much better options available (for OT) in the Portland area, where the profit motive drives the accountability that was non-existent on this day, at this hospital.
