Absolute worst experience with a doctor. Went in for some mild-moderate acne that I’ve been dealing with since switching birth control recently; very first visit she also pulls out the “book she stole from KU” as another reviewer said. 10 minutes in, she’s recommending Accutane, which I didn’t know anything about prior to the visit, other than the fact that I had heard the name. She schedules me to come back in a month (after a pregnancy test) to begin the Accutane, but gives me an antibiotic in the meantime. A month later, with the antibiotic actually working to clear my skin, I go back in. I had done some research on Accutane and wasn’t too excited about it, and given the fact the antibiotic was working I wanted to give that a little longer. I explain my concerns to the nurse re: Accutane side effects, and tell her I’d like to discuss this further with Dr. Waxman. When Dr. Waxman came in, she was immediately dismissive of my concerns regarding the side effects of this medication. I told her I’d like to keep trying with the antibiotic, since that seemed to be working. Her response to me, specifically regarding the possible depression side effects, was “well, people might be more depressed, but they just accept it.” Her tone of voice made me feel like I was making a terrible decision by not wanting to immediately jump to Accutane. To top it off, she walked out of the exam room with no notice, apparently signaling that the appointment was over. I actually had to follow her back to her office to ask if there was anything else I needed to do, and she said “you know where to find me.” I’ve also been trying to get my antibiotic refilled for over a month now, and it’s been worse than pulling teeth. Unbelivably unprofessional office, and I actually warned one person who was referred here to find another doctor.

HORRIBLE. My first visit to a dermatologist and I regret it. Dr. Lisa Waxman was scheduled to see me. When she came in she was a bit wacky. She was bouncing around, couldn’t stay still, couldn’t make eye contact & and was very unprofessional. I simply told Lisa about my skin discoloration as well as acne and she walked out without notice and came back with an acne book that she “stole from KU” as she said. She showed me pictures then proceeded to get out her iPad and began to show me Online articles as if I haven’t done this myself over the years. She then got on amazon and told me to take a picture of a product which she couldn’t define why. She continuously suggested I go next door afterwards for a consultation, I was confused on why considering the fact I paid for HER services. She then began to ramble on about products she uses for wrinkling and I interrupted her to ask once again about MY issues with Acne & discoloration. Lisa then reached out and touched my face then suddenly walked out once again without notice. She then comes back with a small tub of moisturizer and printed off papers of the articles we looked at online. She handed me the papers with the moisturizer in a brown paper bag and proceeded to tell me she has a patient waiting and walks out once again with no return.... I was highly upset considering the fact I took off work, paid for the appointment just to be suggested to go next door and ask them the same things I asked her and to google search my issues. Lisa Waxman is obviously wacky and just unprofessional I left the building still confused about what just happened. I received 0 information about my skin, we spent more time listening to her ramble on about products she uses for UN-SIMILAR reasons. This whole visit in all was horrible, I wouldn’t recommend this lady to anyone. If you and your family has been going to her for years with no issues that’s fine but for NEW GOERS like me, please weigh out your options because this lady is really unhelpful. I can’t explain how wacky she was, literally she made me feel uncomfortable with the jitters & sudden movement as well as the touching without warning. Not one time did she use gloves or hand sanitizer as she kept touching the door to leave and re-enter. Not really an acne expert because I’ve been dealing with it for years but I know you cannot touch germs and turn around and touch your face as she did mine. I wish I could give this place ZERO Stars. If only I could get my money back and go somewhere else.

I have got to say Dr. Waxman is THE best Dermatologist I have ever been to and I've been to a few over the years of living in Kansas City. She is so much more knowledgeable (in my opinion) than all the others I've seen and she doesn't run you in and out of her office. She's very dedicated to her patients, anyway that's the feeling I've always gotten from her. I wouldn't trade her for a new Porsche..
